Clipped twice should not be an issue... a test on random objects here worked. my test of the original image is here. Just like Tyler I have the correct object selected. It just seems like objects don't like to be clipped twice. Might just have to take off the blur or something. Clipping the whole image works until you have to unclip things to clip the shading just like in the examples I gave.
