What is this handle on my text box?

I've been using Inkscape for a lot of years and I have never seen this before.

What are these shapes translucent? It seems like everything is set to 100% Opaque

why are these shapes translucent and why does the shape seem bigger than the nodes (the dotted line around the selected shape is too big!)?

What does it mean to tint and how do I do it?

I have been instructed to use the colors in a palette (there are three) but that I can use tints. So, what is a tint and how do I do it? I probably need to ask the person who told me about tints - "What do you mean when you say tints?" I thing she means that I can add white. Let's say I ha...

Re: I created an SVG with a bunch of objects, I want to brea

I guess we didn't ask about your ultimate goal. I wonder if using Layers would help you? Hhmm....so much depends on those ultimate goals. If you are planning to export those docs to PNG later , it IS possible to export selections (and have no need for new docs). This is exactly what I want to do......

I created an SVG with a bunch of objects, I want to break up

Basically, it is like a story, with one "page" after another. I want to break this big SVG into smaller files. I know I can create a series of empty SVGs, and then copy and past content into them, but I would love to be able to select the content within the SVG, and use some sort of Save S...

Re: Creating content for thenounproject, my SVG files behave

Number one: I have concluded that the Transform is not the problem. So table that. Number two: I created a simple SVG, created a object and saved. No Transform attribute. I opened the file, change the document to 100px x 100px, changed the object to path and saved. Now I have the transform attribute...

Re: Creating content for thenounproject, my SVG files behave

I am fairly certain that the problem has to do with the Transform Attribute. Does anyone know where I can read about the Transform Attribute and how it might be causing this problem - or more specifically, what I can do to fix it?

How necessary it the Transform Attribute and how can I strip it out?

Re: Creating content for thenounproject, my SVG files behave

Thanks for the help on this. (It's James, thanks for asking.) I appreciate the time you put into this. Unfortunately, your ideas did not solve the problem. The files you fixed display the same way... so that is not solving the problem. Here is a comparison screen shot, first a simple USA map that I ...

Re: Creating content for thenounproject, my SVG files behave

Yes, I set the document size to 100 x 100 and then I put my image inside the border. It looks like they are all shifted about the same.

Creating content for thenounproject, my SVG files behave bad

I am sorry that this is not a pure inkscape question, because it has to do with finishing SVG files and loading them to the noun project. I create a 100px x 100px SVG and when I upload the file it does not display correctly. I cannot figure out what I have wrong and I cannot figure out who to ask. Y...

Brand new to Inkscape and the forum. Some advice for me?

I am brand new to this forum, to Inkscape, and to design generally. I am learning Inkscape, but I have workflow questions as well as technique questions. I have a hard time getting consistent and predictable reactions from path actions such as Union, Combine, etc. Can I get some advice so I do not s...
