Re: Abstract Tech effect
I ususally do not go for cloning in this, but for Extensions - > Generate from Path - > Pattern along Path You do a lot of rectangles, group them, send them to the top, do a circle, mark both, and pattern it along the circle (the sending to top ensures that the rectangles are patterned along the cir...

Re: Abstract Tech effect
A group of rectangles will give a nice techy effect if patterned along a circular path - the result resembles the control surfaces on StarFleet ships, to my eye - rectangles are drawn very fast, and coloring them differently en bloc beforehand enhances the effect.

Re: Web page to create heraldic shields as SVG
This is a very interesting project, and an impressive interface. Thank you for sharing. critique: I noticed the patterns ("furs") get cut by transverse fields, e.g. they are not arrayed so they either show fully, or not at all - i do not know whether that is possible, but it would mke the ...

Intuos 3, on WinXP, no problem, nice (that is normal) pressure sensitivity (with USB, that is, i had a serial-port Intuos 3 first, and that did not work out all that well via USB to Serial (other programs had problems too, but Inkscape was in a fit over it))

Re: Finding a cutting service
I still think it is rapid prototyping that you are after :-) Laser engraving might be another search term. Engravers often can do outlines as well, or can work with material you send them. Also, if you are looking for the shape, and not for some special material, you might try speciality services : ...

Re: Newbie, struggling....
I'm still baffeled by the way the Strg/Ctrl+D (Strg ist short for Steuerung, which is german for 'control') works on the previously clonetiled, then unlinked parts. The same thing on manually positioned parts produces the right result (zig zag) but on cloned parts it produces rectangles. weird.

Re: Newbie, struggling....
I just tried my (theoretical) solution, and found, to my astonishment, that it is not as simple: The cloned forms do not form one continuous line , but revert to being neighboring rectangles. Very weird. If i only copy them and position them next to each other manually, it works. I got it to work wi...

Re: band logos
I did not mean to offend. I just saw the picture and had a strong dejá-vu, and for some reason the association 'stephen king'. - beer and college life are not the first associations, though
I did not recognize the beer logo, but if that is widely known in your town, it would be a nice touch.

Re: selecting using a circle marguee
I guess you want the selection-area to be a circle? this is not currently possible, you will always drag a rectangle. i had a similar problem once and used the low tech solution of touch-selection and a physical guide to drag my mouse along...

The lower of the two looks like you filled it by hand (the lines are not parallel throughout) - with the method i outlined & prkos' way of getting the lines perfect to begin with, you should be able to make it work.

I like the one with the bird best (although i think i have seen this before, so there might be some originality issues...) - the ones with the pda-navigator-style have merit, but i think you would have to keep with the prototypical look of navigator maps to be intuitively understandable. - perhaps t...

Hi! I am not sure why you need sqare ends, and i am not sure how to produce those. If it is alright to have ends that parrot the irregular shape, i have a solution (although i am not sure whether it already qualifies as "quick") - Make a template zig-zag module (1 stroke down, one right, o...

Re: Edit SVG from the command line with verbs
I stumbled over this post, which basically suggests that there is an option one can compile inkscape with, that makes it a console-only program (its the last post on the page).

Re: Edit SVG from the command line with verbs
Hi.
In the Manual, it is mentioned that the command line functions work without the GUI, with the exception of the --verb function....
I do not know why, though.

Re: Finding a cutting service
Hi. I'd try 2D rapid prototyping. There is a lot of cutting facilities out there, but they mainly cater to those who want decals out of foil. As you want something made from balsa, that is probably more down the rapid prototyping alley. For a price estimate, try Ponoko, they give a free estimate, if...

Re: Creating Layers with svg file
I am not sure what you are asking : svg does not include Layers. So if you have to export it to another program using normal svg, the Layers will be lost. Inkscape though, can make, save and use layers, so if the CriCut machine is 'printing' (well, cutting) directly from Inkscape, there should not b...

Re: Inkscape in there you can select free
But you can also add any single point to an existing selection while holding shift, and in the video, mostly only two adjacent points are selected by drawing a circle around them, which is not at all faster than simply selecting those individually while holding shift.

I did not understand the request (surely some auto-translation involved?) - What would be the differnence to selecting nodes while holding Shift?

Re: Dash lines convert to rectangles when Stoke to Path is used?
I had some (limited) success with a very short, horizontal path, that is then applied to the original path via "pattern along path" with the "repeated" option. I also tried duplicating the path, making one duplicate "stroke to path" and then cutting the underlying path ...
