Re: List of YouTube (Video) Inkscape Tutorials

Thank you so much for posting the links to these awesome tutorials. Welcome to the Inkscape Forum, latitude. And thank you for your kind words. I am new to Inkscape. I have been using PSP but for reasons that I won't go into I needed a different program to do some things that PSP won't. I was told ...

*grins* Thank you, Brynn. I see you're a Windows guru too!

Thanks for tightening up the terminology: "Use Other Program..." is indeed "Choose Default Program...".

Re: [Bug] Can't open inkscape files without critical error

I was just examining the error your system is throwing. This error seems to be linked more to the fact there was an upgrade rather than it being Inkscape as an application. My first choice would be an application that corrects common Windows Registry errors such as CCleaner over at filehippo.com. (Y...

List of YouTube (Video) Inkscape Tutorials (Updated Aug 29 2019)

As the Screencasters' tutorials are beginning to age, I thought it time to introduce a new list with some fresh ideas. Derek Banas has a very lively set of YouTube tutorials. While small in number (8 videos), Derek guides beginners through the essentials. Highly recommended for those wishing to get ...

Re: A Method of Creating Cartoon Word Balloons

BobSongs, that's exactly what I suggested ;-) Those buttons are for determining the order in which stroke, fill and markers will be drawn. Nice suggestion! And they couldn't have been added too soon. The ability to order the components within an object is a welcome change. Edit: However, the idea b...

Re: A Method of Creating Cartoon Word Balloons

Heya Brynn! Glad to see you're still posting away! I downloaded the new Inkscape 0.92.1 and noticed six new icons under the Stroke style tab (fill and stroke). One of these nifty new little buttons thinned the outer stroke. At first glance it reminded me of this technique of creating a word balloon....

A Method of Creating Cartoon Word Balloons

1. Create Layers (Ctrl+Shift+L) in your Inkscape document for ⋅ Text ⋅ Top Balloon ⋅ Tail ⋅ Bottom Balloon If you’re working over a scan of placed artwork, create a Layer for that as well. http://preview.ibb.co/bXB9AF/001.png 2. Click on the “Bottom Balloon” ...

Please note: the file provided by myself in this thread is freely downloadable and only subject to any typical GPL copyrights. Some artistic tweaking was done on my part, but I release all claims of ownership. The important part is that Inkscape should look the way it was meant to. I'm sure the deve...

Re: Inkscape 0.91 - Missing icons.

Hey Brinn! Sorry to hear you're under the weather! :( And a big thank-you, Moini, for getting that last piece of info for me. The svg file is attached. This isn't an attempt to say anyone else's work is inferior. I'm just very used to the Tango icon set and minor changes get under my skin. Also: the...

ID for Templates icon needed

What is the correct ID for the Templates... icon in the file menu? I've completed a set "icons.svg" for Inkscape 0.91. A "Templates..." icon is included, however the file requires the ID name for it to appear in the list. The icon theme is based on the Tango set for continuity fr...

Re: Measuring in inches

Changing the Inkscape rulers from pixels to inches:

Ctrl+Shift+D to summon the Document Properties.

First tab = "Page Tab". Under "General" click the drop-down list and select in.

That should do it.

Presumably this can be done to fill any shape by adjusting the nodes. This is brilliant, thank you both very much for the info. Inky ps tried the download but Firefox couldn't find the page. I can appreciate your point of view, Maestral. A thread's topic can allow for latitude. If someone asks: "Is this a good way to do X?" then members are free to answer Yes or No. Those who say "No" may post their wonderful ideas. That's great! But when a topic is: "HOW do I d...

Re: Cannot get HQ quality PDF from SVG for printing

There are some other aspects that could be handled better, but it wont effect the quality just the file size. And the point of adding this post? You're telling the artist how to do his job? Lazur? If you're not going to answer the OP's post, then surround your message in [offtopic] plea...

Re: Cannot get HQ quality PDF from SVG for printing

Okay. This is what I've got so far. I don't have all the fonts listed in the document, in particular a font called "EraserDust" on the chef's chalkboard. So I'll leave the converting to Fred9300. Try these steps. From the file menu: File > Save As... In the dialog box: Click the text to th...

Re: Cannot get HQ quality PDF from SVG for printing

Mm, that would be my guess as well: high quality, probably meaning: 300 DPI print quality.

I'm going to download one of the listed files. A bit of experimentation and I'll see if I can get a 300 or so DPI PDF out of it.

V1nce is probably using a development version of Inkscape. The number stamped on the Inkscape development version might resemble 0.48+devel r12xxx. Not technically 0.49 ... but closer to 0.49 than 0.48.

Hi Friends, I was just feeling frustrated about having to go to the bottom of the Filters menu, to get the Filter Editor open. And I was thinking we need an icon for the filter editor on the command bar, just in the same area as Fill and Stroke icon, Layers menu icon, etc. (I know about the key sho...
