Re: Inkscape failing on Mac OS 10.9 (Maverick)?
I have also upgraded to Maverick (10.9). My Inkscape package says it's 0.48.2, not 0.48.4. Inkscape does ask for X11, now supplied via XQuartz. Inkscape will load and run on my Mac, but I can't get a Fill color to Fill a shape and I can't get the Gradient tool to pull up a dialogue box or anything t...

Re: files for color-lists
I haven't forgotten about this color-list user-defined color names idea. Life got out of whack, but may finally be settling down some. I've put the idea on my to do list. -- My thought is, this could be a useful feature for SVG and CSS in some future versions. I just need to write up the idea and pr...

Re: Puffy3D effect, advice please
Hi Brynn, Two sample images in SVG and a page with minimal discussion, which refers back to this forum thread topic, are located on my site at: http://www.shinyfiction.com/non-fiction/svg-contours.html I'll keep the page there. If I ever need to move or change things, I'l have a reminder to update t...

Re: How do I open/save this filetype?
Ouch! I just discovered that when AI saves a file as SVG, it only saves one artboard, not all of them. So if you have multiple pages (artboards) in an Illustrator file (or Freehand file imported into Illustrator) you must ~somehow~ export each arboard (page) separately. -- I *think* it defaults to e...

Re: How do I open/save this filetype?
This is probably a lazy RTFM question, but... Can Inkscape import/open or export/save .FH11 Freehand files or .AI Illustrator files? I have a *lot* of old .FH11 (and .FH8, .FH9, .FH10) files I'd like to be able to properly import and use. I have some .AI files I'd like to use too. I have been trying...

Simpler 3D from 2D - can Inkscape do it?
This may be the case of the wrong tool for the job. That is, Inkscape might not be able to do this (yet). Or it might be best suited to another tool, such as a 3D program. (No, I have not tried Blender or any other 3D program.) While I was trying to learn a certain other vector graphics program and ...

Puffy3D effect, advice please
I'm still very new to Inkscape. Life has settled down just enough so I anticipate being able to learn SVG and Inkscape. I need some advice on how best to create a 3D effect, a "puffy" look to shapes or text. This surely involves contour gradients or extrusion or a filter or two. Or it may ...

Re: files for color-lists
I realized after posting that, two things: First, I need to look up how to submit the idea for user named colors to the CSS workgroup committee as a proposal. Second, I'm used to Freehand and trying to learn Illustrator's (to me) frustrating interface. If Inkscape could have a way to view and save/p...

Looking for color-model converter
I tried out some HTML5 and CSS3 features this weekend, and ran smack dab into a couple of "not ready for prime time" cross-browser issues -- and an important color-model problem between the web's HSL and RGB versus the models Freehand used and Illustrator uses. Web HSL != Illustrator HSB !...

files for color-lists
One thing I have always wished for was a good, simple way to export the list of colors used in a format that was friendly to the graphic designer and the web designer. RGB in hex and decimal and perhaps percent, HSV or HSB or HSL (I just wish there were agreement on the definition and terms and synt...

Re: Migrating from Macromedia Freehand to Inkscape
Hi folks. I'm in much the same boat. Freehand user since either Altsys or Macromedia. Made the Adobe migration. Then watched Freehand support just die. ...And I couldn't get Freehand to install on a new machine last year, because Macromedia.com was gone, so it wouldn't check and wouldn't register. S...

Re: Multiple "newbie" questions
Update -- Good News / Bad News: A trip to File -> Input Devices does let me check using the Wacom tablet (duh) -- and then it works! -- until you quit the program. So it doesn''t remember that from session to session, and I'd again argue the 1.0 release should automatically detect the tablet. ( Noti...

Re: Multiple "newbie" questions
Hi, folks, and thanks for the help. I've now found a couple of answers. I'm waiting on another computer op to finish before restarting, to try to answer another question. I'll post on that later in the week. * Laptop and Desktop: Win7, Firefox 4, Inkscape 0.48.1 (latest of each); Wacom Bamboo Tablet...

Multiple "newbie" questions
Help, please. I feel like a newbie. I can't get Inkscape to work. Win7 laptop; Wacom Bamboo tablet; Inkscape 0.48.1; From Inkscape's Windows Installer download; Experienced Macromedia Freehand user, now frustrated with Adobe Illustrator and pricing. I wouild really love a good vector drawing program...
