what about the blur control in the Fill and Stroke dialog ? You can choose the amount of blur you want for you objet and it affects its edge. I don't know if my answer is relevant but...

So, it's OK, to fit text into perspective, first select the text, then the quadrangle then go to the extensions menu => path modification => perspective and it'll work (with the 0.47 version at least...) thank you
