Re: Opening Inkscape SVG file in Illustrator

Thanks everybody. I like those ideas (convert to path, and save as regular SVG). I went over to my friend's print shop and downloaded InkScape onto one of his computers from the internet, then opened the file I had sent him and saved it as a postscript file, and illustrator was able to open that and...

Opening Inkscape SVG file in Illustrator

I emailed an Inkscape SVG file to a commercial printer to print on a big banner. It's a crossword grid, plus a lot of text boxes. When he opened it in Adobe Illustrator, he only got the crossword grid, not the text boxes. I saved it again, all on one layer, grouped all the objects into a single obje...

Re: snapping to gridlines (and rows/columns)

Thanks you guys! Heathenx, thanks for posting the two files. You actually gave me a good idea there...when I created my grid I used 1" squares that had black edges, and for some reason when they are snapped together on a 1"x1" grid there's the tiniest line between all the squares. Whe...

Re: Resizing text boxes without scaling text?

I'm sorry, this is the answer to exactly what I want to do but I don't understand what you mean by "click and drag a box" - EXACTLY what would I do, please? ETA: I did select the Text tool, click on the workspace and draw a blue box, as per the instructions. Figured that out. Then I starte...

[solved] snapping to gridlines (and rows/columns)

I'm creating a 17x17 crossword with 289 squares. per advice on this forum I am using the rows/columns feature. 1) in practising with this, when I create 9 boxes (duplicated right on top of each other), select all 9 and then set rows = 3 and columns = 3 it seems to override this with a 1x9 configurat...

Re: Creating a crossword puzzle grid?

Hi Sure, At this point I am just messing around with one square making sure I can create it, move it, snap it to the grid, set its border, etc. I'm not making it any particular size. I figure I can do that later when I start on this for real, after I've "mastered" a single little square!!!...

Re: Creating a crossword puzzle grid?

OK, I've watched both videos and in the first one, when he creates the object and sets the stroke/fill properties, he sets the fill to "none" and then sets the stroke to black, which creates a line around the square. I tried doing the same thing and my square is completely invisible even w...

Re: Creating a crossword puzzle grid?

Quick question, I can do without this if it's difficult to do, but the grid should have thicker lines around the outside border. Would you suggest I create a square on another layer underneath the main grid, that is slightly bigger than the crossword grid, and give it a black border? I'm thinking th...

Re: Creating a crossword puzzle grid?

Hi SureWhyNot and Aho, Thanks for your responses! Sure, that video was great - the rows/columns idea really will speed it up. Aho, this is a one-off project, I won't be creating another one, and it has to scale up to 2' x 3' for printing, without losing quality, which is why I wanted to create it in...

[solved] Creating a crossword puzzle grid?

Hello, I am very new to InkScape and vector graphics in general. I downloaded InkScape a month ago and did one project which came out great. Now I'm working on something completely different. I need to print a 17x17 crossword puzzle on a very large poster (2' x 3') so I want to create it from scratc...
