I looked at the PDF you had created and it was no better for me! So the problem is not Inkscpape but seems to be my PDF viewer (Acrobat 7.0) I have also noticed that when i take a snapshot of the PDF image (saved as a PNG) it picks up the stroke/border abberation on the counters. I am creating the PDF doc by 'save as' then selecting .PDF from the drop down menu.

I have used both 0.45 and 0.46 versions of inkscape and I have tried it on a separate computer but I get the same results (both computers are XP)
