Thanks so much for your help. I tried your suggestion and it works beautifully. I'm learning to use Inkscape with a view to producing vector graphics to sell on Etsy and through microstock companies. So there might be some issue with the spiros not being editable as spiros for a buyer. But at least ...

Thanks for your ongoing help and patience. Sorry about the file not being visible etc. I just tried to attach it, but the file was too big. So I have made another file to show what I mean, and have attached it. I made the 2 swirls and then adjusted their widths (via the path editor) to 2.000 I then ...

Hope the link works. Its a bacteria, and the little hair like structures and the flagella (tails) all revert back to their origal thickness when they are ungrouped.
