Re: Smarter way to align a belt around a wheel

With a recent development version, here's a schema how to create a tangent between two circles tangent-between-2-circles-screenshot-schema-1.png I do not see this tangent constraint anywhere. I have every snapping option selected. No matter where I put it, I still see just "Cusp node to path&q...

Re: Split a line and have different strokes

hey thanks Polygon I did try that; as I mentioned Shift + Ctrl + K (I'm on a PC) did not work. This apparently splits the path but then when you select the portion of the line it still selects the whole line, it doesn't select just one portion of the line. Also is there a way to confine lines to be ...

Split a line and have different strokes

How do I split one line into two lines, so that the two lines can have different strokes? Alternatively, how do I draw two lines and constrain them to be parallel to one another (as in a CAD program)? I have viewed other posts on this forum and still can't figure this out; it doesn't seem to be work...

Re: Create parallel guidelines

You can convert objects to paths by pressing Shift+G. What does it mean to convert an object to a path? If I wanted a circular guideline for instance, could I create one by drawing a circle and pressing Shift+G? It seems to me that this just creates a guideline tangential to the circle... Can guide...

Re: Create parallel guidelines

Great stuff here, thank you. I did not know you could convert objects to paths, I'll have to try that.
I also read up on copy/clone duplicate here:

Create parallel guidelines

Hi, I am attempting to create two lines and constrain them to be parallel. As far as I am aware there is no way to do this as Inkscape is not a CAD program. However is there a way to create two parallel guidelines? I recently learned how to create an angled guide from this page: http://libregraphics...

Re: Snap nodes to guidelines

I'll answer my own question. To fix this, I had to select the "Snap cusp nodes..." option on the toolbar.
Apparently it was answered on the previous post (I missed the notification):

Snap nodes to guidelines

Hi, I posted yesterday but my question was not answered. I am simply attempting to make a horizontal line stay horizontal when I move sections of it. How do I make previously created nodes snap to guidelines? When I first create a bezier curve for instance I can "snap handle to guide" as I...

Re: Help with snapping nodes to guidelines

Snapping buttons all have tooltips, for object center, rotation center, paths, cusp nodes, smooth nodes, intersections etc. Yes I know that and I've been using that toolbar. I have found the center of objects snapping button now; the icon is not very apparent. Thanks! Anyway this was a lesser conce...

Help with snapping nodes to guidelines

When I first draw a bezier curve they snap to guidelines as I require. However if I later move the guidelines and would like to move the node as well, the won't snap! What's the deal? Nodes will only snap when they're first drawn? Really I drew this guideline just so that I could draw a horizontal l...

Re: Line disappears when applying drop shadow

Yes that does seem to work. Thank you!
Now I'm having another problem however. I already saved the previous version; now when I reopen, how do I remove the previous drop shadow that was just around the box?
Thanks

Line disappears when applying drop shadow

Hi, I'm attempting to apply a drop shadow to a box with a cross through it. When I select the box and add the shadow it looks great. However when I have either line selected and attempt to add the drop shadow, the line basically disappears. I tried all the options in the drop shadow pane. What am I ...
