icebot

A rather old work I made, mostly using a glass like effect and transparency to render some sort of ice... http://pierro.buro.free.fr/ElectricCreatures/icebot-small.png You can find all my Electric Creatures on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Dream-of-Electric-Creatures/289634678221 Pierre

Re: Some sort of plant

Yes it is made with inkscape, the 3D effect is actually not that complex to put together, I can post a tutorial if anybody is interested... The cholla has got spikes indeed, lots of spikes: http://www.carto.net/neumann/travelling/joshua_tree_np_gettys_2003_11/22_cholla_cactus.jpg Mine is a spikeless...

Re: Node tool: duplicate nodes

For me it works with inkscape 0.46. selecting nodes and ctrl+D or shift+D gives different results though... Create path a select 2 nodes (bottom nodes): http://pierro.buro.free.fr/ElectricCreatures/step1.png Ctrl+D then move the 2 new nodes: http://pierro.buro.free.fr/ElectricCreatures/step2.png Ins...

Some sort of plant

Hi,

This is some work I am doing to create vegetation for my swampbot project, how you think it looks? Any ideas to improve it?

Re: Map - bitmap roads to paths

I guess you could use gimp to select the roads by color, extract the road network in a separated bitmap and then vectorize it with autotrace. The problem I see is that there are many details (text, road numbers, ...) to complicate the road extraction work...

Re: swampbot project

The water filter is inspired from a filter I found on the web:

http://chrisdesign.wordpress.com/filter-effects/

Yes I was thinking about adding some vegetation, I don't know where to start though... i don't think it's easy to create good looking plants??

good addition, I though the first version was a bit too dull, but this new element makes it a lot more interesting imho.

Re: Speedbot at night

You mean that the cone should start from somewhere near the top of the eye and not from the straight line at the bottom of it?

I will give it a try and post the result.

swampbot project

This is the project i am currently working on. my first attempt to play with filters to create textures. The mouth is still work in progress, and I am not too sure about the water droplets. Would anybody have a good link to create good water droplets? Any other comment and suggestion is welcome... h...

Re: Real life size drawings

I don't understand what you mean by the inkscape drawings are 90dpi? When you export a bitmap, you can choose a resolution which will affect the image size (in pixels, which is not necessarily related with print size), I guess using the page size you have selected as a reference. But how does the dr...

Re: Gimp 3.0 interface concept

For me changing to single window photoshop style interface would be a big loss, the ability to organize the dialog boxes the way I like and to manage my screen real estate by myself is a huge advantage. Of course it means the main edit window should not be fullscreen which is something we are not us...

Re: eps preview

Why do you want to keep a vectorial graphic format in writer? Once you know the page size, a bitmap format with the right resolution should give the right result. If you really want to use .eps, i think you can use Gimp to open your eps file an create a preview. Another option is to use LaTex to cre...

Could you better explain what you mean by "to cut the paths that are visible with the eye or color differences." ?

Re: Real life size drawings

If you use the page (letter, A4) frame as a reference, your drawing should be printed with the right scale.

I don't think there is a way to define a drawing to print size ratio in inkscape.

Speedbot at night

This is another version of the creature i already posted, at night and with some experimentation to create a bright light effect. It is still pretty basic, but the lighting works quite well. http://pierro.buro.free.fr/ElectricCreatures/speedbot-night-small.png ----- Dream of Electric Creatures http:...
