I find this is the simplest way (although a rough workaround) to stop the gaps from rendering:

yeah, this is a known issue with the inkscape news RSS...

there is talk of switching the inkscape website over to drupal after the 0.46 release. so this will probably be fixed when that occurs...

Just thought i would update this post, Inkscape Feature Requests are now handled by Launchpad (https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/)
Just submit for feature request as a Bug, and it will be classified as a "Wishlist" Item

when was vista released?

the dev version of inkscape no longer has the menu text colour issue under vista...

As far as i know, this cannot be done in inkscape 0.45.

never fear though, there is some awesome new code in the development version which introduces dockable dialogs. this should solve your problem, maybe you could download an unstable version...

there is an official tutorial on interpolation that has just been written. (it is not inculded in inkscape yet, but should be in version 0.46)

also, if you are still having troubles, i have created the gradient that you need, and placed it in the openclipart library... http://openclipart.org/media/files/ryanlerch/3798 remeber to set the "repeat" of the gradient (in the fill/stroke dialog) to direct. have a look at that, and try t...

basically, the name of openclipart is a bit decieving... as long as the artwork is all vector, and public domain, we would love to have it in the collection, it does not neccecarily need to be "Clip art" in the tradtional sense of the word(s) :P even if an upload is not super useful by its...
