Re: From submenu to canvas with a key (combination).

@Xav Thank you for the link and the reminder about how CAD worked. How do you find Inkscape WRT shortcuts and especially changing focus between different parts of the interface? Could it be improved? @MARSZ try to install lubuntu on the old machine, or some other linux designed for old-machines. I f...

Re: From submenu to canvas with a key (combination).

Love the 1-key shortcuts in Inkscape. Wish there was a little command-box to enter stuff, something like, for example: s lw 1,2 [enter] (set linewidth to 1,2). Love things like: ctrl-d, ctrl-x, ctrl -> ctrl ->, z, clickclickclick, s, ctrl-v, . , . , ctrl-. . Like to use the command prompt on me lap...

Re: How to keep font size constant in Inkscape during rescaling?

A workaround could be to copy the text objects, move them outside the sketch area, scale the sketch (without the duplicate original text objexts), then copy the original text objects and paste styles only (one style at a time). The steps are: copy an original text objext, select the relevant scaled ...

Re: CPU Usage & Memory 100%. | Inkscape 0.92

256 GB RAM? Really? Or is that hard disk drive and not RAM?

What type of SVGs are they? Do they have many objects? Are some of the objects images (raster)? What is your Bitmap export resolution (Inkscape preferences > Bitmap)?

I wish I had that too. There was a bug report about some bugs relating this, but I can't seem to find it now.

But you can submit a new wishlist item, we're still on Launchpad: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/

I'd love to have this feature. Having to fiddle too much with arrows and mouse can be annoying.

BTW your screenshots would be easier to view if you cropped them horizontally too ;)

Hello Tech_Sau! Welcome to the forum!

What kind of drawings would you like to create?

Inkscape is so easy to use you can install and start playing with it without a lot of knowledge.

Have you used any other vector graphics software? How did you get to Inkscape?

Re: How to open a SVG file in the linux?

Was it some browser on windows that you didn't or couldn't use on linux, like IE or Edge? They might have different "rules" about how to display SVG. They're usually not the browsers who lead in implementing web standards the fastest, though I'm no expert on this.

Super-realism can be achieved even in vector graphics. Take a look at these from the Inkscape website gallery: https://inkscape.org/en/~luizrezende/%E2%98%85sandra-bullock https://inkscape.org/en/~TimJones/%E2%98%85vespa-90-super-sprint https://inkscape.org/en/~DanielL/%E2%98%85smart-car-brabus Or t...

Re: Select objects by overlap with path

Most Inkscape users on Linux change their window manager Alt key to something else - Alt+click is essential for using Inkscape in a swift and convenient way - we even have an FAQ item for it :) I've never bothered changing mine. Instead of Alt+click or Alt+drag I use Super+Alt+Click/Drag, where Sup...

Re: Is there an inverted equivalent of "Clip"?

Hello TavernSenses! Welcome to the forum! These needs to come up sometimes, when you want to make a hole in your drawing for example. But there isn't an easy way to just select Invert. You have to create an object that covers the area you want to keep. Usually you first create the object shape you w...

Re: From more layers to one

You don't have to reorder them through the interface. Open the SVG file in a text editor, and add the missing attributes to turn the groups into layers manually, by typing them. I expect the groups will be in the exact same order the layers were ;) so simply adding the correct pieces of text to them...

Re: How do I change the colour of this svg?

Is the object you're trying to change a PNG or SVG? The image you attached is PNG, you might need to host elsewhere for SVG. If it's SVG look to the Statusbar to see what object type you have in selection. Ungroup if it's a group (or double-click to enter it) so you can select individual objects. On...

Are the two objects the same size and position? If they aren't it's clear from the bounding box markings what object is selected.

And as Xav said, checkerboard background helps.

I'm getting correct output in Optimized SVG.

It could be your preferences, or the Optimize settings. Can you share what you had chosen there?

Re: Garbled letters when exported to svg

Welcome to the forum!

The file you attached only contains paths, not Text objects. Is this the optimized file? Can you attach the original one so we can try ourselves and see if it goes wrong? Or maybe share more details about what objects you're creating and what the symptoms are.

Wellcome to the forum! What is the Opacity of those objects when you select them? You may have to get inside groups to be able to select individual objects (Double click the group, or Ctrl + click). Once you select an object (look to the Statusbar, it will tell you what is selected) look in the bott...

There are a number of ways to do it, one is to take what you get from Tracing and edit to get only the line from the edge you want. But if you want to do it manually without Tracing, using only the original drawing, do this: Break apart the "brain" (Shift + Ctrl + K) to get all i...

Re: Is it possible to put the text in the PATH in this case ?

You can try with Trace bitmap Brightness threshold or Edge detection, but you'll have to clean it up after the trace to only keep one of the edges of each "line". https://inkscape.org/en/doc/tutorials/tracing/tutorial-tracing.html http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Trace.html Sin...
