Thanks! I saw a tutorial on mesh gradient and it seems I can use this to create what I am looking for. Hi. Using mesh gradient would be the obvious way to start instead of using of a combination of blurring. Although it depends on the look you are after. Production-wise using some sort-of halftoning...
