Re: Isometric drawings
Hi. To retain the scale when using Lazur's excellent method the object has to be scaled to 86.6025403% ( cos(30°)*100) vertically. This can be done either before or after the Skew / Rotate sequence. A tip to speed up the workflow is to make "ready-made" objects and just copy the objects, ...

Re: Isometric drawings
Hi. To get exact positions, you can use rectangles. Draw one, then go to object mode and skew it to 60° -by holding Ctrl, two steps-, then rotate it 30° -two steps by holding Ctrl. After that, you can go back to the rectangle tool and type in exact values for the transformed rectangle's height and ...

[solved] Isometric drawings
I have been looking at using Inkscape to do some simple isometric drawings directly rather than doing the drawing in a 2D CAD system first. Previously I have imported the CAD drawing into Inkscape (dxf) and then quickly trace over the lines by snapping to the ends. It works fine - I get a lovely dra...

Re: book illustrated with Inkscape now on sale
I had no input to the cover design. The graphic designer used illustrations from the book, but recoloured them and used them on top of a cloud background. Personally, I like the cover, but that sort of graphic design is not really my thing, so I cannot comment. The main illustrations for the project...

book illustrated with Inkscape now on sale
Finally, finally, finally my book is available for sale! Nearly 400 illustrations, diagrams and tables all produced with Inkscape. I even used Inkscape to produce better looking versions of graphs generated my math programs! The illustrations are all line art with flat tones (this works best with th...

Re: Tablet pointer position wrong with multiple monitors
I use a bamboo tablet with inkscape (32 bit windows vista and 0.48.1 inkscape) all of the time. However, I tried to get the tablet to work on a two-monitor set-up, but gave up and returned to using the tablet on a single monitor computer. I did not get far enough to see your problems in Inkscape - e...

Re: book samples
Oh wow, not just a paper hot air balloon, but apparently one that supplies its own hot air! And a couple of balloons in the book are solar powered too! The only issue I see with the PDF docs, is that all the underscores seem to be bolded....or maybe have a darker black than the rest of the text. Ve...

Since I'm in a sharing mood, here's some rejected artwork for a local doctors' surgery. I don't get to do much work in colour, so it was fun:

Yeah, I know that mirror thing... Funny that you mention it because that's what I'm doing veeeery often. :) It is so cool to find someone else who does that! I just put everything I want to show up in the mirrored version under one parent layer and then clone that entire layer. Am going to ...

Hi all some of you may know I have been working on illustrations and content for a children's book using Inkscape. The book is all about paper hot air balloons and how to make them, and has around 380 Inkscape illustrations, all in B&W. Well publication is fast approaching, so I have uploaded so...

Re: Dillerkind's image pool
But then again, I've been looking at this for so many hours that I probably just don't see all the minor and major flaws anymore :D I get that too. Sometimes if you hold up the picture to a mirror you can see the faults 'cos your eyes see the image almost for the first time. Or If I put the image a...

Let me start by saying that I didn't want to use your software. I wanted to use Autocad 2009 or Google sketchup however, my friends flaser machine uses this software, so i thought what the hell. I'm an amateur draftsman and this software should be easy.. I'm a profssional Draftsman and I found the ...

Re: svg to jpg quality
I don't really understand Brynn's comment about dpi in the Export Bitmap dialog. If you change the dpi figure in the Bitmap Size part of the dialog it does update the bitmap size for you (I've done it lots of times!). This means that the PNG bitmap can be displayed at a larger size before the pixels...

Re: Exporting a blur so that Scribus can read it
They really come into their own when you're dealing with fluorescent or metallic paint, or embossed output. But I just use them because they colour is more reliable across different kinds of output material (paper, vinyl, cloth, etc). Hmmm. It shouldn't be so, but of course you are right. A signifi...

Re: Exporting a blur so that Scribus can read it
When you go through PDF does the blur show up in Scribus output ? There are settings to simplify what is displayed in the image boxes to save computing time, so sometimes WYSINWYG... Just because it isn't on the screen doen't always mean that it won't appear in the output. EDIT: I'm not sure that Sc...

Re: RGB to CMYK with Gimp
Yes Brynn, it is here: http://forums.scribus.net/index.php However, I think the developers mostly watch the mailing list which is at: http://lists.scribus.net/mailman/listinfo/scribus Though many power users are on both. I found the Scribus community very helpful, but I do know you had a poor experi...

Re: RGB to CMYK with Gimp
I suggest that you ask this question on the Scribus forum. They have a lot of experience with colour conversion and preparation for print. They can probably also tell you why the colours didn't look great after conversion. I know there are Inkscape forum members here who are on the Scribus forum as ...

Re: drawing techniques on inkscape
And yes, you don't necessarily need a tablet to work with vectors. It would certainly speed things up but it's not mandatory. I'm doing all my own stuff via mouse... I like tablets for 2 reasons: 1. I can use a tablet all day and I don't get pains in my fingers and wrist (I do from extended mouseke...

Re: Is Scribus Good Enough to Use?
Whether Scribus is good enough to use depends on what you want to use it for. It is a page layout tool. I have used it to layout lots of pages containing images and text, and it has worked really well. I've only had one or two monor problems with PDF output. By the time you get to layout all of the ...

Another things that helps increase my workflow is panning the canvas with ctrl-right-click-drag instead of using the scrollbars. I just watched a youtube video of somebody using the scrollbars to navigate Inkscape and it looked pretty painful. Nice one. I'll try that. I use the scroll wheel to pan ...

Plus, it does reflect the social status of today's youth. Xactly (snip)..., I think the image does celebrate life. 100% agree. My only beef is the placement on front page. I think Dillerkind can take a lot of pride in his artwork here, because I've heard/read about art, that the true measure of suc...
