Re: File size question
I had similar problems, also with a map. Had maybe 20 layers, but lots of objects and pattern fills. Not a TON of Gaussian blurs, but certaily some, and certainly I over-used some of the (excellent) SVG Turbulence Filters that Inkscape has available. Still, it got to where I was working in Outline M...

Check out this extension - it sounds like exactly what you're looking for:

Rendering large complex images
I work on boardgame maps that are (to me, at least) large - say 2500x4500 in size, with about a dozen layers, each of which can have 1-20 sublayers. Lots of filter effects, lots of patterns, lots of fonts. Working with such documents can be trying, as it seems to push Inkscape to the limit - one wro...

So... 0.49?
Been a long while, it seems, since 0.47 turned to 0.48. Any clues on when we might expect 0.49?

Re: All I want for 0.49 is much better performance.
I hate to say "Me Too," but, well, yeah. I'm not even close to being a professional, but even at my Serious Amateur stage I'm finding that "Inkscape Workarounds" become a bigger and bigger part of my work flow as the drawing gets bigger. "Big" for me is a boardgame map ...

Re: Bug? Moving/scaling a pattern spawns multiple new patter
Glad to help in some small way; I greatly appreciate everything you've done for the inkscape users. Not sure if these have been mentioned in somebody's Clone Wish List, but given the kind of stuff I'm doing with clones, I've often found myself wishing for capabilities like: 1. Select All Children - ...

Re: Bug? Moving/scaling a pattern spawns multiple new patter
Here's the pic of where the Pattern Selection Handles appear. Far to the left of the pattern-filled object itself. Too far away to actually see what the object looks like when you scale the pattern; that's why I want to drag the pattern selection nodes closer to the object (seen as the cluster of no...

Re: Bug? Moving/scaling a pattern spawns multiple new patter
Sorry for the delay in responding. Think I've found where the problem happens. Here's how to reproduce it. All files attached. 1. Open up the PatternSpamBeforeDrag.svg file. Display mode = no filters. The Buildings layer and Huts sublayers should both be unlocked. Set the Zoom level to 20% to see th...

Re: I know inkscape is slow but...
Agreed that turning off visibility for layers you aren't working with and generally working without displaying filters are essential for getting anything done with Inkscape at this point. Shrug; looking forward to when this becomes easier, but workarounds do exist. I wonder, though, whether filter r...

Re: Bug? Moving/scaling a pattern spawns multiple new patterns
Providing some basic info I should have done before: Inkscape 0.48 (latest official release version, not a bleeding edge dev version) Windows XP and Vista (occurs on both machines) The file is a boardgame map that's rather large (at least, for me) - 2588x4345 px The pattern is actually a ~100x100 bi...

Bug? Moving/scaling a pattern spawns multiple new patterns
Not sure if this is a bug or not, but it seems like sub-optimal behavior. When I fill an object with a pattern, I often want to modify that fill by scaling/rotating the pattern. This is done by selecting the filled object and then selecting the Node Tool, which puts the X-O-(square) handles on the d...

Re: Determining print size
Kind of an epilogue to the story - I measured out exactly how big I wanted my map to print at (it's gotta be the same size as existing maps for this game), so I converted that (21 and 29/32 by 7 and 31/32 inches, just to show how anal I am) to 150 dpi and scaled my Inkscape document to that size. Th...

Re: Determining print size
Thanks for the replies. I realize that dpi isn't something that matters when you're drawing - seems like Inkscape just wants you to draw in all the details you want and then print at whatever SIZE you want, with raw dpi being less important. Mmkay. For a newbie like me, particularly one who's coming...

Determining print size
OK, I'm close to tearing out what little hair I have left, so somebody tell me if I'm crazy. I have my Inkscape default resolution when exporting to bitmap set to 150 dpi. When I start a new document, I set the size of the image to be 8x22 inches. Why in the world (read that: WHY IN THE @#$*&#$@...

ID Collisions?
Sometimes when I import one SVG document into another, the imported image looks like Bad Computer Things have happened to it. I have to wonder whether there's an ID collision between the import and the existing document. Does Inkscape check for this automatically, or is just one of those things that...

[solved] Lighting effects
I'd love to get a lighting effect for the rooftops of a map I'm making. Is there some way to apply a gradient to an object with a pattern fill? Or perhaps it could be done with a HSL Color Effect?

Memory?
Hola gang, I'm working on a map for a board wargame and Inkscape has been very fun to learn with. Question - this map is growing to the point where I'm getting various memory-related problems: * scrolling too quickly causes a heap error * can't export the whole thing to a PNG because of some malloc ...
