Re: Wooden icon theme prototype

@ioonquawl Thanks, yes you're correct about the arrow, now that you mention it, it's obvious! I actually forgot to change the perspective of the logo until after I had finished drawing it (the bottom has to be kind of stretched so that it looks correct) and so I didn't really make it as well as I co...

Re: Wooden icon theme prototype

nils, I hope you're wrong but I take your warning into consideration :) Here is the (first draft of the) first icon! Inkscape seems to have exported the smallest icon badly, just ignore the white line at the top for now. Be brutal in your criticism... http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2107/2907825176_2...

Re: A little textured collection

Great work, I had no idea you could make such complex stuff with the filters. I /really/ need to learn about them!

Note to all: don't view this in firefox, you won't see the filter effects. Download it and view it in Inkscape

Re: Torn out page of paper.

Thanks, yeah the ripping took ages manually tweaking ~30 cut-in circles with the node tool The texture is much more subtle than I expected, you're right. I have decided not to use texture at all unless I can work out a better way of using textures that aren't bitmaps than tracing them (most textures...

Torn out page of paper.

I've made it for the Breathe Icon Set. Not sure what I think of it yet, but I like the detail.

Re: Inkscape logo colour explosion

Thanks! I'm glad you guys like it! It's a technically very easy piece, I just got my wacom tablet out and started scribbling because I was frustrated at some web development I was doing!

Re: Wooden icon theme prototype

Here is the second prototype! Keep those comments and suggestions coming in, they're very useful to me! I've spent lots of time on this so I'd like to perfect it. Notes: [*] I've used a dummy logo this time, the rectangle would be the actual logo in the real thing. (the logo wouldn't be inside a rec...

Thanks to HeathenX

Just watched HeathenX's latest screencast on creating stitching effects and it's fantastic, so thanks for that and thanks for the great link to http://www.cgtextures.com/ (free textures)

Re: Wooden icon theme prototype

Wow, that's some excellent feedback Ioonquawl, thanks! You're absolutely right about the shadows. Unfortunately I'm not fantastic at getting perspective & lighting right so your tips are invaluable to me. Once I finish a current client project I'll modify the shadows and try to reflect what you'...

Re: Wooden icon theme prototype

The problem about making the text bigger is that there has to be enough space for file extensions like .XHTML - that's the largest I could make the text and still fit it in whilst keeping consistency.

Re: Wooden icon theme prototype

Oh I see, so the problem only affects the smaller sizes - or do you think it also affects the larger sizes too? I didn't actually edit any of the smaller icons, I just scaled by 50% each time. I intend to make the 16x16px icon just say PDF (no pdf icon) and the text on the 32x32px icon larger, I jus...

Re: Wooden icon theme prototype

Thanks for the comments, I appreciate it!

Could you explain more about the difficulty in distinguishing them? I don't understand what you mean - I'm very open to suggestions for improvement.

I do think it would be a shame to take the realism away though.

Wooden icon theme prototype

Hi all, I sat down at 10pm, in the mood to draw something using wood. It's just gone 4am now and I have no idea where the time went! I had a few crashes (and discovered a bug) but I got there in the end... Here's a prototype for an icon theme I'm making: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3035/286628609...

I'm not sure if the verbs wait to finish or not, but have you tried manually looking inside the troublesome svgs? Perhaps they have layers that are locked or something?

Nice effect, could be useful for "grunge" style web design.

Get gaps when you use patterns? Here's a work-around.

Firstly, if anyone can work out how to fix this properly please enlighten me! This is hands down the most annoying bug for me in Inkscape (and I have no idea how to fix the codebase) If you use patterns you will have come across the gaps that appear as horizontal or vertical lines sometimes. You mi...
