Re: Join and cap shape changing without user input

To be honest, I don't know how it "remembers" the stroke width and color. I'm not surprised that it doesn't remember the corner and cap style. If there's a bug anywhere in this scenario, it seems to me it would be that Inkscape took a stroke width and color from the last object drawn, eve...

Re: Join and cap shape changing without user input

I suppose my main problem is that it actually does preserve some settings, but not all. I'll try to explain my reasoning a bit further and hopefully clearer. I draw a shape using :tool_pencil: . I give the stroke of this object a red colour, 0.7 mm width and round joins and caps. I turn off the stro...

Re: New paths attached to existing groups

That's right on the money Xav. I didn't realize that you could add new objects to groups while in them, and it seemed so weird that it carried over to the save file. Seeing how entering groups is temporary, I would expect to exit all groups as I close the drawing.

Thanks a lot.

Re: The Greys

Somehow your latest comic makes me think of Will Wheaton. It also reminds me how I was cured of ever becomming an autograph hunter. I was only about 5 years old, and my mother told me that she was going to meet someone related to a big shot hockey player at the time. She told me she could get me his...

New paths attached to existing groups (solved)

Sometimes when I create new paths with :tool_pencil: or :tool_pen: and I have groups in my drawing, the newly formed paths will automatically adhere to an existing group. The group doesn't have to be selected for this to happen. Is this a bug or am I missing some setting that applies to groups? The ...

Re: Rejected Comics (possibly offensive material inside)

But trying to control them too tightly will stop them spreading freely to people who might otherwise enjoy them. I totally see this point. As of now, I'm perfectly happy with the way it is. Of the five strips you've posted so far I would guess that three of them could easily be translated. "so...

Join and cap shape changing without user input

I have a problem with how the stroke style is behaving when it comes to setting the tool style for :tool_pencil: and :tool_pen: . Normally, if I create an object which has a path stroke, and the join and cap shapes are set to round, this setting will be preserved if I would turn the stroke paint off...

Re: Rejected Comics (possibly offensive material inside)

I suppose I haven't really thought that much about the sharing bit yet. I will probably get to that part when I have produced some more comics. I know I would personally feel a little disappointed if I saw a comic with a link to a website, and that site only held another 3 comics. Until I have a lar...

Re: Rejected Comics (possibly offensive material inside)

Thanks Xav! Admittedly I haven't thought much about licensing. If I'm not mistaken though, copyright rules still apply to my work, even if I don't add a specific license. It might be worth adding a CC license like you suggest, as I do want people to share my work, as long as they give me proper cred...

Re: Rejected Comics (possibly offensive material inside)

Thanks for the kind comments guys, it's really appreciated. :) The more I think about the shadows the more I'm on nesDk's side. I like the sharp look, and I don't think playing with blurs will make me happier about the results. As brynn states I did blur the fence's shadows ever so slightly too, but...

Re: Rejected Comics (possibly offensive material inside)

Thanks for the comments nesDk. I actually thought that the shading of the clouds would go unnoticed, but it's a great point you bring up. The reason I put a blur effect on their shadows in the egobacophobia comic was to give them a softer feel. Now that you mention it I'm not really sure how I feel,...

Rejected Comics (possibly offensive material inside)

Greetings fellow Inkscapers. To make a long story short: having been more or less obsessed with comics and cartoons my entire life has made me a wannabe cartoon artist. Inkscape has given me a great tool to be able to actually make finished cartoons, as opposed to only making scetchy doodles in the ...

Thanks for the replies. Sounds pretty much like what I expected, but it's always nice to have it confirmed.

And yes by the way, I am sincerely using Inkscape. :D

Re: Joining Nodes help!

It can't be done unfortuntely. It's discussed briefly in the frequently asked questions. If you want two nodes at the same spot, I would advise turning on the snapping functions and use the different stroke style caps to make the lines join smoothly. If you later want to move the nodes, you can sele...

A few questions on forum etiquette.

I have a few questions regarding proper etiquette on these forums. I did read the rules, but there are a few uncertanties that I would like to clear. Is this the proper place to be asking questions about forum conduct? "Feedback & Suggestions" doesn't really cover "Wonderings"...

Re: Size of drawed figures

Go to the Document properties page under File -> Document properties (ctrl+shift+D). Here you can define what units of measurements you want to use for a lot of things. You can change the page size to a specific size, or use guides or a grid to create a canvas of the proper size. As an alternative, ...

Thanks for the explanation Xav, I do see the problems. My own demands aren't quite as sofisticated as yours, as I don't plan on releasing any of my svg files like you do. I'm gonna check out that fontforge.org that you suggested some day when I have a little more time.

Re: How do i alter a font

I did a bit of digging as I have been thinking about making my own font to personalize my comics further, and I found a pretty decent tutorial at http://cleversomeday.wordpress.com/2010/02/09/inkscape-dings/ . There's both a video and pdf version, and I found them both quite easy to follow. Now I do...

Re: Your first Inkscape drawing

Thanks brynn! I can certainly see the Odie-esqueness of my little pup. I don't have any formal drawing training, but rather rely on drawing (no pun intended, seriously) inspiration from comics I've read. Garfield was the comic of choice for my brother growing up, so I had a lot of access to Odie as ...

Re: Don't know the name of my problem (image explains)

I would really like to see the Panda icon explained in the Inkscape: Advanced tutorial under the section about combining overlapping paths. It took me quite a while to figure out too when I first tried to make a shape with a hole in it with that technique. I had the opposite problem, I had it set to...

Re: Your first Inkscape drawing

This is the first drawing I did that's anything more than doodles to figure out the basics of the program. Originally, he was supposed to be green and actually be an entire dog, but circumstances around his birth unfortunately meant I wouldn't be able to use him for his intended purpose. Instead, I ...

Re: Paths of variable widths

Thanks to both of you for your replies. Very much appreciated! brynn, the scaling problem with using the calligraphy tool is the same as with using stroke to path. If I use a calligraphy stroke alongside a normal pencil stroke and scale them both, I will end up with the calligraphy stroke thicker or...

Paths of variable widths

New guy here. I'm not sure I have all the definitions perfectly clear, but I'll try to explain my query as well as I can. Is it possible to create a line of variable width, without actually having two paths which form an object or shape? I've been going through the Inkscape tutorials (which btw is a...
