Re: SVG in Games and Animation

It looks like most of it is about using javascript libraries. Is that how most smart phone or tablet games are developed? The majority of mobile games are native, so they would likely leverage languages, APIs and frameworks native to a given platform (Objective C/Swift for iOs, Java for Android). B...

Below is a series of articles I came across that explores SVG w.r.t. games and animation. Re: Vector Art Optimization Challenge #1

However, the 3-point circle may be too simple given the tools/extensions available. Why would i want to draw a three point circle ? I dont quite get the point of path optimization. Can somebody explain, pls ?! Here's a somewhat contrived example (but it gets the point across) - suppose you wanted t...

Re: Vector Art Optimization Challenge #1

We got some awesome results for this challenge with some really enlightening approaches. Thinking about the next challenge and switching up the format. Challenge #1's focus was optimizing node count, the next challenge I'm thinking about optimizing a process. So the 3-point circle came to mind (9 po...

Re: Vector Art Optimization Challenge #1

If you look at it it wasn't skewed. That would result only in a simple paralellogram shape -which you would need two next to eachother to build the bending shapes. Meaning four points, instead the current 3. They were scaled and rotated . Skewing is a transformation that scales vertices/nodes along...

All right, since gradients don't matter anymore. 18 points presented as 18 nodes and straight path segments. So it's "better" than the previous 16+4=20... https://openclipart.org/download/245465/isoRoadTile11.svg By the way if the left side would be darker than the right, it could be done...

Re: Vector Art Optimization Challenge #1

Revised the rules to take gradients into consideration. Whaaat? nooo :P ... oh well 32 points then!... and what about cloning? Forgot about that one. I guess to keep the playing field level, clones should be counted as duplicates of the original shape - so multiply the number of clones by the nodes...

Best I could do (so far) was 30 points: - 6 nodes (hexagon) for clipping path - 3 nodes (triangle) for grass/green area - 3 nodes (triangle) for earth/brown area - 6 nodes (2 separate triangles) for tinted overlays - 6 nodes for beige/off-white border - 6 nodes for dark gray tarmac http://dimudesign...

Tested and got 31 points. I'm impressed! I was hoping others would join in before making a submission of my own but I'll get started on mine and see how well I can do.

Checked this one too (clip-path nodes counted) and got 45 nodes (not 18). Its an improvement though.

You can create your tiles and convert them to symbols and keep them in one svg file and use that svg as a symbol library.

Re: Creating a Hex Tile

I don't think the stroke-alignment attribute is supported yet.

Its not too hard to work around though. You can double the stroke width for one. For example, if you want to have a border with an inset of 5px set the stroke to 10px. Enable cusp snapping to arrange your hex-grids and you're good to go.
