After about 5 hours of playing with this I decided to give up on a solution, but I did find a work-around. I imported the .svg into GIMP and deleted everything except for the path for the lettering. I saved and exported the path, and imported back to the Inkscape file. From there, it exported to .pn...

This seems like a bug but I can't be sure until I see the file in question. Have you tried breaking up the paths in that word, or simplifying them very little, maybe even delete a node and try to export again, or change exporting resolution?
