Re: Emma
Thanks for your update! It helps. So what have you learned about res? Yes higher is better for the most part. ...And yet there is more to it than that, or is there? You have to stop somewhere. Your comments on the res of your illustration shows you choose pretty darn high. And for what you are doin...

Re: Emma
A MAZ ING To say the least. So is Inkscape really not even at version 1? Hard to imagine. If you did not say, and you might have, how big did you draw this? Meaning in Inkscape? (not file size) Is that a real question? I am about to post a new drawing of a city park drawing (does not look photo rea...

Re: Emma
Here are the outlines of the image. Hid some of the background layers. I don't just trace the image, because that doesn't usually capture the essence of what is being displayed, For example, if you look at the eyes, there are a lot of vectors there because if you simply trace you won't get the textu...

Once again, spectacular! I do have a dA account, but only to be able to view images posted here and linked there. I don't have like a gallery, or messages or anything. Anyway, I followed your link, to see if I can figure out how to "fave it". I still haven't figured it out, but I found th...

Hey guys! If you weren't aware already, there is a contest on DeviantART.com. Below is my entry. It would be really cool if you could fave it on DeviantART for me! :D Here's the link http://famine-star.deviantart.com/art/Cannabis-Ballins-297923993 http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2012/113/0/1/canna...

Re: Bride
Snel, May I just say that if you aren't already doing so, and ever need or want some extra money, start this up via a web site (or go on Etsy) - and start selling these puppies! Just think of what someone might pay to have a digital wedding portrait, or really, any portrait.... Looking forward to s...

Re: Bride
is this at least in part a trace?..because otherwise how do you go about doing the drawing in inkscape, specifically the gradual tone change areas like the face? Yes I work very closely with the photo reference. WOW, breath-taking, I love it. Love the details of the face, esp the nose. If you don't...

Re: Bride
Wow, another amazing portrait! Do you think it took less time because of the coloring (almost like black and white)? Or maybe this subject is slightly smaller (than some of your other portraits), so that there's more background? Well the background is a stock image, so that didn't take any time. I'...

Had a fun time with this piece. Took a lot less time than most of the other realisms.

Re: meshing gears
Try using the :tool_spray tool. Change the scale factor to set the variation in size of the gears and the scatter factor to change the overlap. Make sure to select "spray copies of initial selection" button on the far left of the toolbar. As far as I know, there is no way to easily vary th...

This contest sounds awesome! I'll definitely be entering! Not that prizes are necessary, but somebody should have a talk with the Inkscape team and see if we can get the winner on about page of an Inkscape release.

Re: Emma
OMG, that is absolutely amazing! The smaller size is almost indistinguishable from a photo. I think it's the best photorealism piece I've ever seen with Inkscape! In the larger size, some areas of the skin could use a little more blending (blurring?). But that's just a simple matter. The hair is si...

Great work Joe! I think this would make a really good "find" icon. The only thing is it's missing a bottom at the end of the handle. Other than that it looks fantastic. Did you use a reference?

Re: Wing Gundam
Another things that helps increase my workflow is panning the canvas with ctrl-right-click-drag instead of using the scrollbars. I just watched a youtube video of somebody using the scrollbars to navigate Inkscape and it looked pretty painful. Also, the hotkeys are awesome. I use 's' for selection, ...

snel, it would be fun to hear what you learned doing this artwork - or what ever you wish to share. You really "hit it" in a number of ways. Hmmm. I'm not sure I learned much from this piece in particular. Maybe I'll do a tutorial soon. But here are some things: CMYK picker is good for sh...

Wing Gundam
Worked on this all night yesterday and all day today. I used to love Gundam when I was a kid. Full view at http://famine-star.deviantart.com/art/Wing-Gundam-278423473 . All done in Inkscape except the Gaussian blur for depth of field was done in GIMP. http://th09.deviantart.net/fs71/PRE/f/2012/008/0...
