Re: Inkscape to PDF, Optimize PDF in Adobe Acrobat
Aha! Apparently this is solved in a later release of Cairo, 1.8.8 is from 2009 and is quite old. I was using Inkscape 0.48.1 on Windows. I found a newer version of Inkscape hiding away on SourceForge (0.48.3.1-2) which includes Cairo 1.11.2 (23/01/2011) And the PDFs generated with that are successfu...

Inkscape to PDF, Optimize PDF in Adobe Acrobat
Hi everyone I use Inkscape to build up designed pages, adding text boxes, shapes and images from GIMP. Then export that to PDF to further process in Acrobat, combine all Inkscape pages into a single PDF for example. The images are from GIMP XCF files that I copy and paste into Inkscape, they appear ...

Re: PDF bitmap export resolution
I'm not criticising in the slightest, quite the reverse! I have been using Inkscape extensively for many years and it's fantastic to see increased usage of the SVG format on the web, especially with the new features in HTML 5. I'm not looking for technical information, I'd just like to know the foll...

PDF bitmap export resolution
Hi everyone I've written a small wrapper GUI to the Inkscape command line for batch converting SVGs to PDF/EPS/PNG. This is a task that I have to do on a very regular basis so this saves me plenty of time. One thing I had never noticed before is that the dpi setting doesn't affect the resultant PDF,...

Re: Converting a bunch of nodes into some paths
Ok I've got it sorted, mainly through trial and error. I'll keep going over it though to try and work it out. Loving Inkscape though :D The interface is such a step above other graphics progams, all the functions are easy to get to. Not through 3 levels of pop out menus. Good work developers, and ke...

Re: Converting a bunch of nodes into some paths
Ok I think I'm getting there, using the break apart and combine commands.
But how can I get the centre of the circle in the R and the centre of the O to be transparent to the layer below?
Cheers, B

Converting a bunch of nodes into some paths
Hi everyone I've just done a bitmap trace, and it all worked well. I've just finished polishing up some node positions and curves. But when I dropped it over my background, I suddenly realised it wouldn't work exactly as I wanted so I need a bit of help to convert this into a set of separate shapes....

Re: SVG conversion from illustrator -> inkscape. Remove preview?
Just tried a few tests of opening plain SVGs back into Illustrator and everything seems to be ok. I've checked stroke widths and editability and everything seems to be ok. So I reckon I'll go with this as a plan and start storing the logos in SVG code in the database. Obviously we'll keep all the ol...

Re: SVG conversion from illustrator -> inkscape. Remove preview?
Tried saving out of Illustrator as SVG and messed around with the various options and it seems there's no way to get rid of the illustrator stuff - at least in the version I was using (v11 CS1) But saving that out of Inkscape as a plain SVG seems to preserve everything ok, so that will probably be t...

Re: SVG conversion from illustrator -> inkscape. Remove preview?
Ok cool I think tried that by copying the Illustrator SVG into a blank Inkscape document. Then saved the document as an Inkscape SVG Then saved that as a plain SVG and got a warning, saying something like "You will lose data" if I continued. I don't want to lose data - well I do, I want to...

Re: SVG conversion from illustrator -> inkscape. Remove preview?
Wow that sounds perfect! Though when I save as SVG out of Illustrator CS 11, it gets named as just .svg Not .ai.svg, which the Inkscape import filter seems to expect. If I try and rename my SCG to .ai.svg, and import in Inkscape (0.45), I get an error message... "Failed to load the requested fi...

[solved] SVG conversion from illustrator -> inkscape. Remove
Hi everyone I've been using Inkscape for about a year now and it's grown into a great product. I'm no designer or graphic artist... more of an enthusiast in web development and standards, but I do produce various images/logos in vector format. All done with Inkscape these days. I'm currently working...
