It does work if I do it in 2 steps (first text vs circle, than line vs circle). Thanks sooooo much!

Dear Brynn,
I make use of path - difference to get the transparent text.
I tried to select the line, use stroke to path and then path-difference but in that case I only get a much thinner line than the original.

Making a group transparent
Hi all, I'm an inkscape newbie and I would like to make a group (text + straight line grouped together) transparent on a solid black circle.
