well I sort of thought of a way just now... I could just draw a long triangle without a stroke and then duplicated a bunch of times and strech it to the size I want it, but that seems like a lot of work.

Is there a way to draw tapered brushstrokes with the line tool? I want to try doing tattoo-style shading with tapered lines but I can't see a way to do that in inkscape. I can't figure out how to install the dev build for Ubuntu. Is there a deb file or an autopackage somewhere? I don't know how to compile source. Is .47 pretty stable?

This seems like a simple thing but is there a way to make it so that landscape orientation is default instead of portrait? I thought it would save my settings but everytime I open a new document it's back to portrait mode and I almost always like working in landscape mode. Thanks
