Re: preferences crash in 0.48 on windows7
After having to re-install Windows 7 (for the 4th time) I finally was able to download 0.48.4 and install it. It did not crash when I went into Preferences. Thanks much for your suggestion!

Re: preferences crash in 0.48 on windows7
The version I'm using is 0.48.2.1, so I'll try the newer ones you just mentioned. Thanks!

Re: preferences crash in 0.48 on windows7
Deleting the Preferences file then restarting did not work. It still crashed.
What else should be tried?

preferences crash in 0.48 on windows7
I had to re-install Windows7 recently and now I'm working on re-installing all my software. Inkscape 0.4.8 installed fine but when I try to go into Preferences, I get a message that an internal error occurred and that Inkscape needs to exit. Windows' crash "report" says the problem was in:...

pattern fill question
I'm running Inkscape 0.48 on SuSE Linux 11.4 64 bit. I wanted to use the pattern fill on an oval object that had to be tilted (rotated a little bit) and I need the pattern to be at 90° to the canvas, not following the orientation of the object. Here is the normal object with a pattern fill (checkere...

Re: 0.46 rpm for SuSE 10.0?
@heathenx Thanks for the info. I had been thinking about version 11.0 but I just don't feel like going through all this again. Yes, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Have you ever tried SuSE 11.0? Another thing, when I can't find something that I'm used to having in a certain place, that ...

Re: 0.46 rpm for SuSE 10.0?
I went up the directory and found this page: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/jnweiger/SUSE_Linux_10.0/i586/ But Inkscape was not there for SuSE 10.0 :( My son-in-law tried out KUbuntu (from a live CD) but it could not use his sound chip and it didn't run his graphics card too good ei...

Re: 0.46 rpm for SuSE 10.0?
That's nice but don't forget about Novell SuSE's timeframes: you get updates for only 2 years or so and if your version is older than *their* schedule, you're out of luck -- You're forced to upgrade your entire system or no updates for you! That is my situation right now. So if the developers of an ...

0.46 rpm for SuSE 10.0?
Will there be an rpm for SuSE 10.0? My system is considered "end of life" so there are no more system library updates for my version anymore so I'm stuck with older app versions. As for updating such things myself, it practically takes an expert to figure out what dependencies go with what...

Re: Vector portrait
Thank you!
Actually, I had put a reference image into the project and then traced the areas that I wanted for each color/shade. It was a lot of work but worth it.

Thank you, Cerin, for your comment.
I was not going for a photographic look, but I will keep that blur filter effect in mind.

Re: Vector portrait
Well I can't benefit from that. See the post above regarding this.
I did try and look to see if Inkscape has been installed using Wine but there weren't any entries in the Wine database.

Re: Vector portrait
I finally got it to work. Thank you for your help!
The object that I had selected was in a group and once I ungrouped it, then the object to path command worked. I also found that I can take a freehand stroke and convert that to a path. I knew I had been doing something wrong the first time!

using the development version of inkscape .46. Well that explains it then, I'm using 0.45 and I'm stuck with it so don't tell me to upgrade because I'm running SuSE 10. 0 and I'm not about to upgrade my entire (nicely working) system (running the risk of introducing bugs, and problems, etc) just to...

Re: Vector portrait
So, you're not really painting with it, you're just pasting it in places?
I just tried that out and I don't think that I can really do much with that, just create cool looking backgrounds.

I wouldn't know how to get the Inkscape pic to look like water colors.
Anyway I'm finished with the project now and I will be posting it in the finished category.
