As brynn pointed out, Path -> Break Apart can be used (but I missed it when scanning over this page!). Path -> Trace Bitmap Select path Path -> Break Apart Turn off Fill, turn on Stroke (with thin width) Delete unwanted duplicate lines. For the face image shown, you could make the big outside shape ...
