Re: Poor performance and lags on powerfull machine

Inkscape uses CPU, not GPU. Drivers won't help.

Try the latest development x64 build.

Re: CYMK fundraising

Why is there not an initiative to fundraise for the development for CYMK-support by Inkscape? What is holding the community back? Inertia, I guess. Even if you fundraise successfully, you need a developer who's willing to work on it. Maybe it would be a good GSOC project? (Or maybe it would make a ...

Re: drawing challenges and contests at Inkscape Community

Here's an idea about fireworks: yes, you can animate fireworks in SVG with much pain. But, there's a much more clever way: you can also animate the fireworks by abusing the loading time: pad the document with lots of useless data, then have the outermost rings be at the end. Thus, the fireworks will...

Re: Development versions for Windows on official download pa

I was mistaken. I thought http://staging.inkscape.org/en/download/ was part of your editing area, but it's clear that there's no "brynntest" in the URL. My bad.

Yes, the sourceforge link is the correct one.

Re: Development versions for Windows on official download pa

"You" is brynn :) For the moment, the most recent builds are on the official sourceforge, http://sourceforge.net/projects/inkscape/files/inkscape/. That is the replacement link I am suggesting. In the current download page, the development builds are very old. Many of them won't even start...

From my limited knowledge, a quick hack is to create an offset path. But there might be a better way.

I think you are misunderstanding something. There are development builds, just not the ones linked on that page. There's even one in my signature, and one in the post above yours.

Development versions for Windows on official download page

They aren't being updated anymore, so they should be removed. Since you have control over the website now, you can change it :)

Re: "Last Used Style" is erratic

There are lots of bugs in Inkscape. You will encounter a significant number of them. The development team is understaffed. For example, in many cases Undo will crash Inkscape or at least fail to work. It is known. But there's not enough development resources to fix it. I think Xara is just about dea...

Re: Inkscape 0.48.5 Released

Maybe 9 months as an estimate. You can download 0.91pre2 now, which was just "released" (almost released, waiting for packaging). I'll hazard a 95% confidence interval as 3 months to 2 years. The trunk is usable, and its reliability is inferior to 0.48.5 but not by much. 0.48.5 has problem...

Re: Inkscape official releases?

Releases are announced after packages are made for every platform, and after someone takes the time to update the site. So a release may exist for your platform before it's announced.

Re: Drawing a parabola ?

Just a note: cutting off cannot be done in inkscape precisely. With a boolean operation nodes are recalculated and they move a bit. That's very interesting, and I just confirmed it to be true. Why does this happen? Floating point precision issues? As for the cutting off ends method, the ends can be...

Re: Drawing a parabola ?

Sorry for necroing, but this page seems to be very popular on google. A cubic bezier with the two handles on top of each other is NOT a quadratic bezier. So Slow Dog's method for making parabolas will not work. (the reason is that the bezier nodes for the cubic travel at a quadratic pace instead of ...

Re: Moving nodes and objects together

If the rectangle isn't located on some easily distinguishable landmark on the bezier path, it's extremely difficult to eyeball the proper position to move them one after the other, keeping them attached. You would have to use auxiliary lines to snap objects to the final position. Also, if you had to...

Re: Moving nodes and objects together

Your solution is exactly what I was looking for, and your intuition is very sharp. Is there a reason I can't select both the rectangle's handles and my regular nodes simultaneously, without converting the rectangle to a path? Say, for example, that the rectangle is instead an arc. Once I have node-i...

Moving nodes and objects together

I have a bezier curve, and a rectangle that should be attached to part of the bezier. Is there a way to move that part of the bezier and the rectangle together, without moving the rest of the bezier?
