Yes, convert the shape to a path by going PATH > OBJECT TO PATH.
Then by selecting the various nodes, by holding SHIFT to select more than one, you could select all the nodes from half way up the shape (as you've shown) and drag down or upwards depending on the length you desire.

Snapping leaves slight gap
Hi there, just a quick question really. When I place a vertical guide by dragging from the the left hand side ruler, and create whatever shape I desire, I snap it to the guide. Then if I want the same shape, symmetrical, placed on the other side of that guide, I'll duplicate the shape and drag it ne...

I wanted to reinstall Windows anyway, so just before I did, I uninstalled numerous programmes on my computer, some graphics related, some Adobe related (I knew they used shortcuts), but Inkscape still wouldn't let me use CTRL+Z for undo. Sometimes though, it would l...

Shortcuts not working
I've had similar problems with Adobe Illustrator in the past (one of the reasons I came to Inkscape) , but at all times when this problem has occurred, Adobe Photoshop shortcuts have been functioning fine. For example, the shortcut for Undo, CTRL+Z does not work. Instead CTRL+Z opens up the magnify ...
