Re: Where Inkscape has an xcf save option?
Inkscape Can save files as xcf, but for now in Inkscape 0.48.4r. it will not import and open xcf files . Maybe that will be fixed soon though. I wouldn't hold my breath for that :) Inkscape will save .pat, and gpl files to. Not that I know of :) Gimp's svg support has greatly improved over time. Ha...

Re: New version 0.48.3 or 0.49
I've no idea how you ended up with all these consequences. 0.49 is not that far away. We hope to cut alpha release soon. After that it will take several months to finalize the release. Personally I expect it to take at least 3 or 4 months (translators alone will get a month to do their work), it cou...

Or maybe we are preparing an alpha release of v0.49

Re: New version 0.48.3 or 0.49
Hi, Sorry, it's my fault. I should be updating Inkscape's homepage more regularly, It's just I really hate going through checking in stuff to SVN repository, then running update script on server. Posting to Google+ is so much easier. But let me write something :) I'm not sure why brynn says that 0.4...

Re: Google Plus not globally available
Although that said, the Google+ account could have been started by one single motivated user, for all I know! Motivated is my middle name, thank you :) The G+ account is currently controlled by 4 people: Joshua Andler (release manager), Uwe Schoeler (Windows buildmeister), Tavmjon Bah (our W3C SVG ...

Re: Extention Development & Friendly Pointers (any Dev aroun
Well, if it was an open project, another idea I would throw in would be to go for a web app like Lasersaur folks did . Then you wouldn't even have to worry about recompiling the library under various platforms. Just feed it with a source file, tweak things for cutting in the browser et voila. The li...

Hi, http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Extension_subsystem and other info in the wiki indeed are a start, but I guess you've already been there. With what information you were able to share it's difficult to provide concrete hints. However I'd like to point out that there already is a project c...

Re: Mesh gradients
Could anyone venture a ballpark ETA for the mesh gradient in a stable release? I'm not sure if it's possible. We are relying on unstable Cairo for some new stuff already, so technically it's like this: 1. Cairo releases a brand new version with all the stuff we need. 2. This version goes to distrib...

Mesh gradients
Just in case you missed the news, mesh gradients are now to be part of SVG 2.0, and there is a branch for that (currently rather unstable due to Cairo bugs). Tav did its presentation on SVG Open 2011 this Monday.

Re: engineering drawings with Inkscape
It depends on how you are going to produce the watch's body. If you want 3D printing (with plastic or metal), perhaps Blender is better. Shapeways are quite Blender-friendly. Personally, I'd start from drawings with pencil and paper, then move to either Blender (free) or FreeCAD (surprisingly, free ...

You can save a local XML file with a keymap.

Looks like it's a call for an article on hotkeys requested by ~suv a while ago. I wish we just had a configuration dialog for hotkeys

Getting CMYK colors from Inkscape to Scribus
Due to popular demand we published an article on preserving CMYK color values when importing Inkscape's SVG documents into Scribus. Read it here. Inkscape is still better for illustrations, and Scribus is still better for typesetting, so it makes sense ensuring their interoperability.

Re: Open source graphic design
I think Inkscape doesn't have to be compared with software X or package Y. The question is: can it produce what an artist requires?:D I think it's a wee bit more complicated than that. It works nicely when everyone in your team is either using same Inkscape/GIMP/whatever combo as you do or is happy...

Yes, Inkscape doesn't show embedded CMYK bitmaps correctly. This is a well-known issue.
