Make the left half and clone it, flip it to the right side and edit the original on the left. When finished, join the two.

Ah - that's better than my "create, copy, flip, join"

Thank you.

Re: Creating/manipulating symmetric path?

As far as I know you can move the nodes symmetrically around, but cannot edit only at one side that the other would follow. To do that you need to select a pair of nodes, and move the node's bounding box handles while holding Shift. (May need that displaying of the bounding box to be set in the ink...

Re: Creating/manipulating symmetric path?

Hi. Just curious, stencils are mostly used to produce flat shaded shapes, with no outlines, so why do you want gradients? Anyway. There is an option in the fill and stroke panel, under the gradient dropdown menu, to use symmetric repeate. With that, you would need to snap the starting handle of the...

Creating/manipulating symmetric path?

I am currently working to create some stencil patterns; (source material here, some lovely stuff https://archive.org/details/ExcelsiorFrescoStencils ) Many of the designs have symmetry. I can easily use inkscape's (superb!) clone feature when a pattern element is repeated in its entirety. But how do...

Re: Creating asymmetric nodes using pen tool?

So I think your query has been answered? Shift to change the length, ctrl to keep it aligned while doing? Not sure if it was entirely clear and in one place, so here is a summary and sorry for the repetition: While drawing the BezPen makes symmetric smooth nodes, which behavior is suspended when th...

Re: Creating asymmetric nodes using pen tool?

My question is how to transition from a large sweeping curve (long control handle) to a small tight curve (short control handle) at a node. I have read that I can create an asymmetric corner node using the shift key, but I want an asymmetric smooth node . I would prefer to be able to do this as I :t...

Creating asymmetric nodes using pen tool?

I understand (some of) how to use the node editor tool, but (long ago) I used to use Illustrator to create paths from scratch, and found it quite easy. One of the "key" rules was to place control points at the ends of curves, not in the middle, and also to place control points where the cu...
