Even if put all the objects in layers and hide all but one, the information for each object is saved.

how to export just one part of the file?
I've just started with Inkscape and I'm trying to get a workflow going. Generally I draw on my iPad with InkPad, then export svg and open that with Inkscape on my desktop. Generally I draw a few separate objects at a time. Short of cutting the objects I don't want for a particular save, then pasting...
