Smoothing corners

Postby anon_private » Thu Oct 16, 2014 9:53 pm

Hi,

I made an image in GIMP and the corners were jagged.

I have imported the graphic into Inkscape, can someone tell me how to smooth the corners (just the corners).

Bear in mind that I am new to Inkscape - don't assume anything.

Best wishes.

A

You might trace the image to get a vector object, then use the path tools to make smooth nodes.
Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

You need to understand the difference between raster graphics and vector graphics. You cannot directly edit a raster image (basically GIMP is a raster editor, although it can handle a little bit of vector paths) with Inkscape, because Inkscape is a vector editor. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vector_graphics

Why can't you fix the jagged corners with GIMP?

Possibly you could use Inkscape's Clip feature, to make the corners smooth. It's the closest thing Inskcape has to cropping, but it doesn't technically remove anything -- more or less, it covers it up.

Use the Rectangle tool to make a round corner rectangle, the exact size of your raster image. Place it on top of the raster image. Select both. Then Object menu > Clip > Set. Please see the info in my signature (or TDs) to learn how to do these things.

And actually, I'm just guessing what you mean by "jagged corners". It could be you mean something entirely different, and clipping won't help at all. To prevent guessing, you might want to provide a screenshot or actually attach an SVG file. If you don't know how to do that, here's something I wrote for my forum. The details are a little different from this forum, but the general process is the same: http://forum.inkscapecommunity.com/inde ... article=12
