Trying to re-create this icon - is inkscape the thing to use

Postby gauntface » Thu Aug 14, 2008 8:51 am

Hey everyone,

I hope this is the right part of the forums, I'm completely new to inkscape so please go easy on me :-)

I just started to put together my own icon set for my computer and was hoping to re-create this icon Image but without the W in the centre - the reason being that I was hoping to put whatever I wanted in the middle of the page.

I found alot of people used inkscape to create their icons and was wondering if this is possible? I tried doing it following this guide http://ryanler.wordpress.com/2007/05/23/inkscape-sticker-with-folded-edge-tutorial/ to curve the edges of the page but this only seemed to work when the fold is a straight edge, whereas the icon has a curved edge and I couldn't seem to achieve this editing the path.

Any help would be great

Simply draw a shape for the page with a corner cut off, and another for the dog-ear. Then just place the dog-ear over the page. After that you can use Ryanlerch's method for creating the shadows.

If you're new to Inkscape and you don't know how to use the tools to create these shapes, refer to the Inkscape Guide.

lol

One thing Im finding though is that sometimes my icons when used in a theme have random shapes in them, even though the shap isn't in inkscape or if I open them in image viewer, does anyone have any idea how to fix this?? Sometime if I just play around it'll fix itself just wondered if there is a definite way to kinda reset it?

Cheers

I've had inkscape drop shapes out, but I haven't it add stuff, yet. SAS told me to change the resolution on the export and that fixed it, but that is not really an option when making an icon.

Its a really minor thing but just some icons (.svg) files that are essentially just images with text ontop of the image has a white line coming out of the text but its not in inkscape or image preview its a bit weird :-S

Oh yeah, there are a lot of font/text bugs. Which I never run into cause I hardly ever use text. You might as well post a pick of it. And say what font you are using.

Off topic:
Is there a tutorial on how to create the W on that icon?
