Hey everyone. I need lines of 0.5 mm for this etching mask I am designing in inkscape, but they're hard to see, so I drew the thing in 1mm lines instead. Only problem is, when I select everything and set the line width to .5mm, all of the parameters (X, Y, W and H) are changed just slightly. This is bad!

I know you can set an option so that the line width stays constant when the parameters are changed, but is the reverse true? Is there someway to change line width without changing parameters?

They do not really change. There are two ways to display bounding boxes, one including stroke thickness and one not. You can change the one used with File->Inkscape Preferences under Tools and select "Geometric Bounding Box" to get the behaviour you are asking for.
