Hi, I use inkscape very rare and only by need, so sorry, if answer on my question would be obvious.
I have the next problem:
I have a set of svg images. I need to make them into a font. I use inkscape to convert the images to glyph icons. I use text -> svg font editor, then create a font, add a glyph, set it's name and matching string. After that, i copy the svg image from set, centralize it and select. Then I use "Get curves from selection..." option in "Glyphs" category for added glyph. But after that actions nothing happens: the textfield of appropriated matching string is getting empty. Everything works fine for image, created with stars and polygons tool or circles tool, for example. But not for my svg files.
What is the problem? Should I convert svg to something before transform it to curves?

Re: problem with creating glyphs from svg
Hello,
The first question, in this cases, always is:
Could you post a sample file of what you have?
I can only guess:
- Your SVGs are groups. The selection MUST be a path
- Something else ???
The problem with the svg fonts, is that there is not documentation for this even:
http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/index.html
Doesn't have information about that feature, and the times i tried to do something with it, i found many bugs. So I'm afraid that you'll be disapointed.
Greetings

Re: problem with creating glyphs from svg
I remember that inkscape can only produce svg fonts, which cannot be installed as a regular truetype/opentype/or else on a computer, though this was "completely designed" with the program.
That may not be contradiction at all, because somewhere it was mentioned that the svg font feature is made to import all glypths into fontforge at once.
I am not sure about the process, never really tried to make one.
Some hints can be found here as well, for example:

Hello,
Thanks for sharing your work.
Now, with the svg provided, From my point of view, the solution is easy: Ungroup your drawings. Just select the drawing, and perform "Shift +Ctrl + G". I insist in you have to learn the basic use of Inkscape. Just read:
the Inkscape Guide
At least, just the first topics.
After ungouping, just play with the Font Tools. Select the paths and assign them to a key.
Lazur URH also gives valuable information. I always forget about fontForge, which is specialized in this kind of letter font work.
The links provided are also interesting, but I haven't read them all.

Re: problem with creating glyphs from svg
@hulf2012,
Thank you a lot, I've checked links and finally made the font. But here cames another problem: images cann't be ungrouped 'cause they are consist of more than one element (i attached an example), so selection cann't take curves from all of them. Is there a way to unite all the parts in one element exept grouping so I can successfully convert them to curves?
FontForge is nice, but I want to learn how it is possible to make such a thing in inkscape

Please I insist again that you read:
the Inkscape Guide
In specific:
http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL ... Paths-Misc
But also read all about path operations, etc.
