coming from years with Illustrator, so I get gradients, gradient stops, etc.
I don't understand why, when I am working on a gradient, even tho I see the gradient tool over my selected object, the gradient editor palette doesn't reflect what the tool is offering.
Example: gradient editor shows a gradient of 4 color stops. Gradient Tool shows only 3 color stops.
it makes learning very frustrating when the interface doesn't display an accurate representation of what I have to work with.
Is there a way to make Inkscape show both gradient tool AND gradient editor that both agree with each other so that I can work within a truthful representation?
thank you

Gradient tools a bit bamboozling
Re: Gradient tools a bit bamboozling

I reported this exactly to Launchpad as a bug, maybe about a year ago. The response was that the Gradient Editor is to be phased out, and that nothing new would be added or fixed

My requests were that selected stops be highlighted in the editor, and vice versa; that movement of the stops on the canvas would be reflected in the Offset area of the editor; that the stop number would show in the info area when stops were selected; that the stops could be named; that the gradient could be named and saved; and a few more which I can't remember at the moment.
Unfortunately, I'm sorry to say that there is nothing that can be done, at least not by me and most users
