exporting X-4 PDF for cd graphics... can it?

Postby gitman111 » Mon Jul 22, 2013 8:34 am

Hi all. Thanks for being there. I have read so many good things about Inkscape but I am trying to solve a problem. All these cd manufacturers want a CMYK high-res PDF in X-4 format (which I gather has the layers intact, instead of flattened). In scanning through my wife's Windows version of Inkscape, I don't see that there's an X-4 setting, as a matter of fact I don't think I found an Export setting for PDF. Scribius (which will substitute for Illustrator mostly) has an X-3 setting, but that is not current enough. X-4 PDF is evidently the standard now. Can this be done in Inkscape yet, Mac or Windows versions? I'd hate to have to buy a full blown Adobe-priced software just do one cd cover. Thanks much.

Hello there,
if you want to do only one cd cover in such format, you could do that with adobe.
Their trial version can do anything the full version is capable, and it runs for about 30 days free.
Not an elegant solution, but it works.

hey Lazur, glad to hear that. I am loathe to go through the whole download/setup process of an app that big without knowing if it can do that. Thx much.
