Hi there,
I'm just wondering about how to make an object, rougly anything of irregular shape, then export the outcome to a .png file so it ends up with no background at all (iow: an object on a transparent or no bckgnd at all). My question might be killing, I know, but what else can I do to learn otherwise?
My aim is to create a picture with no bckgnd, so it could be moved freely without overlaping any other image when making a collage.
thx
chris
exporting to a bitmap with no bckgnd
Re: exporting to a bitmap with no bckgnd
You should find that Inkscape already does this when you create a new drawing.
By default the background is transparent and the exported PNG will also be transparent. It's only if you explicitly set the canvas to not be transparent will you not get transparency.

As microUgly says, this doesn't require doing anything special. But be sure to use Export Bitmap to create the PNG file - don't use Save As Cairo PNG, as that produces a white background.
