Duplicating a cog.

Postby nick00 » Thu Oct 16, 2014 9:33 pm

Hello all,

I am trying to copy a logo as I would like it in .svg format. I have asked the people that own the logo but they haven't got back to me and I don't want to hassle them. Also, it's all good practice for me in Inkscape! The people that own the logo know that I want to use it, and they have given me their blessing to turn it into a tattoo.

The problem I have is that, using the star tool :tool_star: I create a star with the same amount of corners (14) but I am having trouble getting them to match the pitch of the original (and the exact shape). Hopefully, the attachment will help. The top image shows the original with my transparent effort above it (in Z) and the lower image is of the logo only.

If anybody could help me with this then I would be really happy.

Thanks,
Nick.

Here are some hints:

Using tile clones, you can make a repeated pattern in a circle. See Tile Clones, Tricks in the manual.
Using a bit of simple math, you can make guides to assure precision for the primary segment. See the manual on guides, and the release notes on the latest version for improvements on guides.

Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/
