Extruding an object?

Postby krakenfan69 » Sat Feb 23, 2013 11:52 am

Hi guys. I'm trying to use the Extrude function in Inkscape version 0.48. I created a square for example. Then selected object to path then extrude and get nothing like what I'm after. I keep getting an error that I need to select 2 paths. I've tried adding a path in the direction that I want the extrusion, I have tried duplicating the square after converting it to a path and then selecting both and then extrude. I have tried both polygons and lines. I'm thoroughly confused. I've tried following tuts I found online and it's just not working for me. What am I missing?

Thanks for any help,

Welcome Kraken Fan #69!

You need to have both the "front" object and the "back" object drawn and selected (or large object and small object). Inkscape needs the 2nd one to know where to draw the stuff "in between".

And here it is with Lines option:

I know you said you have both of them drawn and selected. And you said you've done Object to Path. I'm not sure what else to suggest. Possibly you don't actually have both selected? Or maybe Inkscape's Extrude just doesn't do what you're expecting? If you can't get something like my examples though....well, maybe we should look at the SVG file :D
