SVG

Postby ABHAY1988 » Tue Jul 19, 2011 3:44 am

We have many documents which contain SVGs, PDF embedded in it.When we try to open that document using IE 9 then we are able to see the contents only. When we double click on SVG image blank page gets open with crop image.

But strange when we open any SVG image through IE Preview Platform then SVG get open and able to open to view SVG properly.

Did we need to do some configuration settings in IE8 to enable to open directly SVG image through IE Preview Platform.

Welcome to InkscapeForum!

IE8 does not support SVG, and can't display them. With IE9, Microsoft has begun at least partial support for SVG, and can display them sometimes, but not always.

However, I'm not sure if I completely understand your question. I'm not sure what you mean about a "crop image". So if this doesn't answer your question, would you please clarify? Or maybe someone else understands better?

Hi,

What I mean by "crop image" is image not showing up.

Oh, ok. So IE9 does display the image. But when you open the image (by double-click) you don't see it? I would guess that's because the image viewer can't display SVG (which is normally what happens when you double-click and image -- the default image viewer opens to display it) . As I said, MS has only just begun to offer support for SVG.

But the reason you can't view the SVG in IE8 is because IE8 has zero support for SVG. You might want to try other browser which do support and display SVG. Or not use SVG for websites.

I'm sorry, I wish I had better news.

Hhmmm, I thought I replied to this....?

Well, I'll try again.
IE9 is the first version of IE to support SVG at all. It can display some SVG, but not all. You will have to use a different browser, to display most SVG images. Although I don't think there is any browser which can display any and all SVGs. Scalable vector graphics is only just beginning to burst onto the world wide web scene (relatively speaking). I think it will be some years before we can expect to see SVG prevalent on the internet, and with browsers which can display any and all SVG images.
