How to get rid of bands with the Noise Fill filter

Postby avh4 » Tue Aug 20, 2013 4:46 pm

I am seeing horizontal bands on my image, but only when I set the filter effects quality to "Best" in the preferences, or when I export the image. It only affects the areas where there is a Noise Fill filter applied, and I've tried adjusting the filter settings, but the lines won't go away.

Any ideas on how to fix this?
Thanks,

Hi.

My ideas on how to fix that:

Try to group the object before and use the filter on it,
maybe even create the group by adding a transparent object to increase the bounding box of the group more.
http://www.inkscapeforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=13979#p54620.
I assume that is to be sure the object you apply the filter on doesn't have any transformation given in the svg codes.
You can check that in the xml editor (Shift+Ctrl+X)

Maybe it's all related to the size, pixel grid, exporting area and the dpi.
So the idea is to try different sized object with the filter used to export,
and see if the original isn't too small or too big.
Also, trying out if a pixel aligned exporting area
-with even number position and with/height values in pixels- ,
and an exporting resolution of 90 or 180, 270, ... would have an effect -knowing the program works with a 90 dpi grid.

If neither works, try out the current development build version of inkscape, it may make another result.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Moving the filter from the object to a group containing the object does work to remove the bands, but unfortunately it also means the filter's effects aren't rotated. (In my example, I need the texture of each petal to be rotated to align with the petal.)

Exporting at a multiple 90dpi didn't seem to help.

I'll give the development version a try and see if it behaves differently.
