Hi all,

I extracted a page from a larger PDF file into Inkscape. My intention is to save/print to PDF and add form fields in Acrobat so it can be filled in and printed.

This page contains some text and a (b&w) bitmap image. When I print/save to pdf/print to pdf, it the image is displayed as a fully black rectangle.

Does anybody know how to prevent this? I recently switched to Inkscape 0.91 r13725 (x64) and never had this problem before. Do I have to switch back?

- Are you using Linux, Windows, MAC OS?...(because, In a scale of affinity between Inkscape with O.S I'll put (at this moment): 1. Linux 2. Windows 3. MAC OS)

- When you import a pdf page into Inkscape, it generates lots of unneccessary cliping and grouping. In order to stay clean, It's better to remove all that grouping and cliping. Maybe that's affecting your design

- There is problem with opacity (probably). Insert a white rectangle as background.

- There is a problem when exporting from svg to pdf (probably). Verify the options. I think it's better to export the "page" and not the "drawing". You are not rasterizing the filter effects.

- Nothing of the above.

It will be good if you could provide a sample page. It doesn't have to be your original work.

The same thing happens when I print the SVG file to a normal printer.

I'd say it's the pdf format/implementation causing the issue.
Probably the embedded image had an alpha channel,
which then got saved as an embedded raster image used as a masking object over a black rectangle, however most of the times you cannot save pdf-s with smooth masking.

This should work:


Clipping and masking was removed, and negate extension applied on the raster part.

It seems that Inkscape has changed the way it imports pdf. Or maybe it's just for this kind of document. How that original PDF was elaborated?. The copy of the copy of the copy of the copy....
