I have been using Ink scape to design some cutting files.
I tried sending the file directly to my cutter by: File, print, highlighting the cutter, Then initiating the cut.
However, Nothing happens.
Any ideas what I am doing wrong?
thanks in advance.

Re: sending file from Inkscape to Silhouette cutter.
Do you have a link to the cutter and its details?
This thread my help you https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/171190 Try exporting to dxf and then send to print. It may work.

The software that came with my cutter is Robomaster (I have the Silhouette SD by Quickutz).
When I tell inkscape document to "print"~ The cutting details from the robomaster program pops up and asks if you want to use the carrier sheet, registration marks and all that. Then I check off my selections like I normally would, but when I hit "cut" nothing happens at all. No error message. Just nothing.
I will try your suggestion about exporting as a DXF. I will let you know if that works.
Thanks also for the link. I will check it out!
Thanks,
Bye for NOw!

Well, I tried again, and I read link.
So I think my best guess is that DXF's are not supported by my software that tells the cutter what to do???
I really was hoping that I would be able to cut directly from Inkscape...and skip all the extra steps of conversting files to GSD files.

Seems like it. I use a Roland GX 24 and can use SVG's, DXF's and .ai files.

Haven't tried this myself, but hopefully it works.

Wow I never realised that there was a section for using Inkscape with a Digital Cutter, I have the 1st Generation Silhouette Digital Cutter which uses the same software programme as the Craft Robo digital cutter provided by Graphtec. I am a member of a crafting forum that are beginning to see the advantages of using Inkscape for designing and cutting using their cutters, the latest 0.47 version was a distinct improvement on the 0.46 version; now if we could just sort out the Print and Cutting of designs which I'm sure is down to alignment then I'm sure Inkscape would be a favourite tool for all Digital cutters on the market at the moment.
Here is a wonderful YouTube tutorial for Inkscape designing:
http://www.youtube.com/user/cuttingtimes and the blog PDF version: http://cuttingtime.blogspot.com/search/label/Inkscape
and then there is my modest Pictorials showing how to cut from Inkscape if you own a Craft Robo or Silhouette Digital Cutter:

I know that I will continue to use Inkscape for Digital design cutting just for the fact that the UNDO button can be used for more then 1 undo function....

Re: sending file from Inkscape to Silhouette cutter.
There are several tutorials in http://www.enchantart.com
Cutting directly from Inkscape has the advantage that you don't have to convert the file to any other format and it cuts so smooth. Wonderful that we are able to do it!

There is a new forum started up by Carolyn (cuttingtime.com) just for using Inkscape for a variety of cutters and software that drives them like MTC, SCAL etc.
