MrskSanders' path edit problem

Postby MrskSanders » Sun Aug 19, 2012 12:55 pm

Hello everyone, I'm brand new to inkscape and I like it. I am having an issue. I created a path, made an abstract letter J from the path but when I try to resize it, the J is distorted. What can I do to solve this problem? I attached the file so that you all can have a look.

Thanks.

Re: edit paths tool problem

Welcome to the forum!

Thanks for including the SVG file. It prevents a lot of guessing :D I see that you've used spiro splines to draw the J, and that's why it becomes distorted when you try to scale. You can convert it back to a regular path, and it will be scalable without distortion. However, note that once you convert to a regular path, it won't be editable as a spiro spline any more, and can't be converted back. (So be sure it's exactly how you want it, before converting to regular path.)

Path menu > Object to Path will make it a regular path. There are a few ways to scale things with Inkscape. If you use the Selection tool by dragging a corner arrow, be sure to hold Shift + Ctrl keys while you drag. This will keep it in proportion, and scale from the center at the same time. The Object menu > Transform > Scale dialog will scale in that manner automatically without needing keys.

Let us know if you have any problems :D
