Align with left canvas Border

Postby xXKommXx » Sun Aug 09, 2015 11:53 pm

Hey guys,

im new and really not good at inkscape :).
But i´m making a poster just made out of text. In different colors. The problem is getting to the left border of the canvas i need the text also to align. So it basically comes out as an square of text. Attached is the example so you guys understand it better than my vague descrition of the problem. Becaus efor me at the moment I can just solve it by finding the right words with the right letters so it line up perfectly. So I just wanted the tetx align on the left as on the right. Any tricks to do so or do i just have to find the right amount of letters? :
Thanks in advance

You could try with enabling Snap to the page border, and then make a Flowed text with Left or Justify option for the alignment of entered text.

Snapping to the page border would not work instantly, so at first just make the provisional text box. Afterwards, with help of snapping, make final adjustments (with Select tool active) for the upper left and (with Text tool active) for the lover right corner of the text box.

If you`re not familiar with the Flowed text, consult the Manual
:tool_zoom: <<< click! - but, those with a cheaper tickets should go this way >>> :!:

Steps (in case it's easier)

1 - Draw a square the size you want for the text (Rectangle tool, hold Ctrl key while dragging, adjust using either Rectangle or Selection control bar)
2 - Type the text
3 - Select both the square and the text, then Text menu > Flow into Frame
4 - Select only the text, then on Text tool control bar, click "Justify (only flowed text)" button

I'm not clear if you want a margin between the text and the edge of the page, or if you want the text flush with the edge of the page.

If no margin:
1 - Select the square
2 - Document Properties > Page tab > Custom Size > Resize Page to Content > Resize Page to drawing or selection

If you want a margin
1 - Select the square
2 - Document Properties > Page tab > Custom Size > Resize Page to Content
3 - Enter the distance you want for the margin on each side of the text, in the boxes provided
4 - Click Resize Page to drawing or selection button

And the very last step
1 - Select the square
2 - If it has a fill, remove the fill
3 - If it has a stroke, either make it transparent, or make the stroke width zero (Fill and Stroke dialog)

All Best :D

Hey,

thanks for the feedback. the problem is i just didnt understad everything. Haha

So i try again to make it even more clear

[Hellooooooooo][Hellslsososoo]
[Helloonbfsdbjsdbbdmvbsooooooo[Hellslscsdbcjbymososoo]
[Hellsdnflsdkfbdbvckbydkvbckld]

So each in the [] is a single object of text but they belong together with their same color

and now the yshould align with both boarders of the canvas.

I thought again instead of making each individual obeject. I could make one big one over the size of the whole canvas and use the block(? im sorry i dont always know the english words im form germany) text option so it aligns on both sides

If the whole text can't break just anywhere, the steps I gave won't work. Having only certain "words" allowable makes this much harder to do. Because you can see that the middle line is much longer than the rest.

So yes, you will have to just type out different small text objects and align them as needed, to form a square (or whatever the shape is).

You can use horizontal guides to align the small text objects properly, vertically. And then spacing or kerning for horizontal alignment.

Whoops, hi Espermaschine :D

Edit
So my comments were for keeping the text in its original proportions. I think Esper must have scaled the text without keeping proportions. Which is fine, if that works for you.
