...or so it seems to me.
It says it is filling an area, but it only thickens the line that bounds the area.
I think some setting is checked and needs to be unchecked???
At any rate, it isn't working properly any longer. In frustration, I uninstalled Inkscape, then re-installed it and to my dismay it is still doing it!
Why is it doing this and how can I fix it. I just want to be able to click the bucket on an area and have it filled with the chosen color from the bottom.
Thank you!
Angela
Paint Bucket is malfunctioning
Re: Paint Bucket is malfunctioning
I don't understand your problem. Could you post a screen shot, or upload an image to show us what's happening?

Re: Paint Bucket is malfunctioning
I don't think a screen shot would tell you anything. It simply isn't working the way that it was when I first installed it. For a while it wasn't doing anything when you clicked the paint bucket on an object. I think it is a setting somewhere that got changed.
I just opened it again, and now I can click the paint bucket and fill other shapes besides the rectangle with paint. With the rectangle, I have to use control-click and choose a color off the window that pops up to the right. For a while it wouldn't completely fill it with color, though. Now, *suddenly*, it is filling it with solid color again, which is what I need it to do. I have to mess with it for a while, but then it will do it.
The other thing it does sometimes is, instead of filling, it creates an ever thickening border around the rectangle - every time you click the paint bucket to fill the object, it makes the border lines thicker.
I'm sure it is some kind of setting somewhere else in the program....

Re: Paint Bucket is malfunctioning
Check if the "use last style" option is checked in the paint bucket settings in preferences. If it is, try switching to "use this tool's own special style".

It doesn't work - doesn't matter if "use last style" is checked or if "use tool's own function" is checked.
Interestingly, it will fill other objects like circles and stars. But, it will not fill rectangles!

Re: Paint Bucket is malfunctioning
Oh, and it won't fill the borders in, either - like it was doing before. That's what it first did before it completely stopped working.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Re: Paint Bucket is malfunctioning
Which version of Inkscape do you have installed on which operation system?
Can someone help out here and tell where exactly the user preferences file is stored on win32 systems for both
I would recommend to reset the Inkscape Preferences (rename or move or delete the file 'preferences.xml'), but I don't know where it is stored on Windows (I assume you are using XP or Vista?).NightWriterK wrote:That's what it first did before it completely stopped working.

- Inkscape 0.46 (generic unix path: '~/.inkscape/preferences.xml') and
- Inkscape 0.47pre (generic unix path: '~/.config/inkscape/preferences.xml')?
Re: Paint Bucket is malfunctioning
C:\Documents and Settings\[your username]\Application Data\Inkscape\preferences.xml on Windows XP for 0.46
Rename that file to something like backuppreferences.xml

Re: Paint Bucket is malfunctioning
The blessings of the computer gods upon you both! That worked beautifully!
I am using Inkscape 0.46 with Windows XP. I got my version here: http://files.uberdownloads.com/apps/lps ... t=inkscape
Is there a newer better version???
Although, I'm thrilled with this one apart from the aforementioned little glitch. I've been able to do some pretty nice-looking 3-D graphics (never done graphics like this ever before) and I did it within about 2 or 3 hours of downloading it and playing around with it.
Thank you for your help.

Re: Paint Bucket is malfunctioning
not yet but soon - keep an eye on the download page at the Inkscape site (Inkscape Official Release Packages). If you dare to use a beta version, have a look at the recent prerelease version Inkscape 0.47pre1, of course after having read the Release notes 0.47 about new features, fixed bugs and known issues ;-).NightWriterK wrote:Is there a newer better version???
