Hello, with windows 7 and a recent inkscape download, I'm having trouble creating guides from my drawing. I did manage this once with success, but shortly afterwards inkscape crashed before I had chance to save it and I have tried to recreate my steps to no avail.

I used the bezier tool to draw straight lines (ctrl-draw) and select all/object to guides

The first time round, it worked a treat but since the crash all I get is the second image - see above.

any ideas much appreciated

I was wondering if it because my lines might not be dead straight for some reason - it seems very hard to double click when drawing a straight line without the line ending up slightly curved on the second click.

The feature 'object to guides' can more easily be used with rectangles. I don't think it's meant to be used with straight lines. See also: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL ... romObjects

For creating guides with regular distances, or other specific properties, one of the extensions that are made for this may be useful:
https://inkscape.org/en/~samueldellicou ... uide-tools
There's also one included in Inkscape, which has fewer options.

To get lines with the Bézier tool that are just vertical or horizontal, try the vertical-and-horizontal lines only mode of the tool (look into the tool's control bar, there are four modes available currently).
Something doesn't work? - Keeping an eye on the status bar can save you a lot of time!

Objects to guides will probably make more guides than you need anyway.

I'd consider pulling a guide to the center and then double-clicking the guide to open the edit panel and move it "relative" the amount needed. Repeat for each guide.
Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1
