I have a question about exporting png file.
My purpose: use inkscape to map multiple subjects (tiff and jpg) together, export the combined figure to png, insert the png to word, then convert word to pdf
I do not use much vector drawings, except for the arrows and texts.
The problem: the exported png looked perfect in photo viewer, looked perfect when in word, messed up when converted to pdf
Here is attached an example.
I am aware of that my request of assembling pictures could be achieved in powerpoint. However, my situation requires the use of inkscape.

Hi.
I know it´s a default setting but maybe worth checking: background color:
Make sure there´s no object behind the shape you want to export.
You can upload an example file so we can check if it´s alpha channel is intact.
Or you can try this png image as I don´t have Word to test:

Sounds to me as if MS Word's pdf export is broken (maybe it doesn't keep png data as png, but converts it to jpg data to be embedded in the pdf...). I would fix this by putting a white background rectangle into the SVG file.
Something doesn't work? - Keeping an eye on the status bar can save you a lot of time!

I have confirmed that the alpha channel is 0, so the background is transparent. Then it inspired me to change the background to white, then to png, word, then pdf. The pdf showed no mistakes. Attached image.
Then I also tried to add a white block as the bottom layer, then to png, to word, to pdf. The pdf also looked good. Attached image.
The word pdf export might have some problems.

Can I use a white background directly (change alpha channel to 255)? Will this raise problems later?

The image above shows no difference when placed in a vector.app. I´m not sure if you need a transparent background or not.
If you need it - place it underneath your design and use Export Selection.
This PNG has a white rectangle under half the 3d-box:

Thank you for your suggestions and fast respond.
I will use the default transparent background to avoid further confusion and draw a white block as white background in preparation of any word to pdf conversion.
Also learnt a lesson: always covert the files to the final format (in my case) to check for flaws before proceeding to make two dozens of svg with no background.
