How to trace the outline of multiple combined shapes

Postby peerke » Sat Mar 19, 2016 4:41 am

Hi,

I thought my question already should have been answered somewhere, probably will. But have not been able to found it anywhere.
For a lasercutter i need a path (line) which is the outline of some rectangles, lines and circles i have combine into one shape.

Hi.

Guessing you are after converting strokes (or stroke of the compound path for that matter) to paths (Ctrl+Alt+C) then making a union (Ctrl++).

The previous mentioned topic helped me out. Followed the following steps to get the outline for the combined strokes

* Selected all objects (Ctrl + A) and ungrouped the selection (Ctrl + Shift + G)
* Selected all objects (Ctrl + A), select and choose from toolbar "Join selected nodes"
* Then select from same "Edit paths by nodes" (F2) in toolbar "Break path at selected nodes"
* Convert Stroke to Paths from Path > Stroke to Path (Ctrl+Alt+C)
* select and choose from toolbar "Join selected nodes"
* select Path > Union (Ctrl++)
* Change in Fill and Stroke, the fill to No Paint
* Change stroke paint color and stroke style
